Saltwater Kisses- Can anything taste sweeter than love?
When small-town girl Emma LaRue won a vacation to an exclusive tropical island, a last minute cancellation meant she would be going by herself. Shy and studious, she never had time to fall in love, and often wondered if she was just meant to be alone. However, that all changed when a handsome stranger literally walked into her life while on the beach and sparks began to fly.
New York's most eligible billionaire bachelor Jack Saunders thought this vacation would be the perfect escape, one last hurrah, before taking full control of his father's company. When an innocent Emma didn't recognize him, he figured that he might get a chance to have a vacation from being rich. He didn't tell her about the cars, the yacht, or the penthouse. All he did was let her fall in love with him.
Soon, Jack found that he was the one falling in love with Emma. When they enjoy a fantasy marriage ceremony on the beach, they thought it was a bit of harmless fun before returning to their normal lives. A bittersweet goodbye was supposed to be the end of their perfect vacation romance, but when photos of the ceremony were leaked to the press, everything changed.
Feeling lied to and thrust into a world of wealth and privilege, Emma must choose between following her dreams or following her heart. Will she be content at being nothing more than the billionaire's wife, or will she return to her normal life with only memories of saltwater kisses?
He pushed me back until I bumped against the door. His mouth skimmed my jaw, down to my throat, his teeth grazing my skin and his five-o-clock shadow scratching gently. He pressed a thigh between my legs, sending heat through my belly and then south. I whimpered for more, the noise low in my throat.
“You want to invite me in?” he whispered in my ear. Goosebumps ran down my arms, but not from cold.
“Why? Are you a vampire?” I asked with a wry smile.
He didn’t answer but instead kissed me again, drawing me to him like a magnet. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled on my waist, guiding me through the open door. He released me and I felt woozy on my feet from his kisses. The door thudded softly shut and I licked my lips.
He was perfect in the moonlight. His shoulders were broad, tapering into a tight waist and an ass that my fingers itched to squeeze. The darkness and the wine made me bold, my desire growing by the minute. His eyes caught mine and he smiled, knowing that I was checking him out. Those eyes turned up the flame growing in my belly, now spreading north and south, filling my core with need. The sexual tension wrapped around us like taut guitar strings, filling the room with vibrating desire.
His hands grabbed my hips again, pulling me into him with strong fingers. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, tangling my fingers in his hair as we stumbled towards the bedroom. A part of me told me that I should stop, that I should think this through, but the other voices in my head quickly drowned her out; I wanted him more than I wanted to breathe.
"Saltwater Kisses" is a fresh take on a familiar theme. Author Krista Lakes seems to know this genre in and out and hits all the right buttons, creating a story that anyone who loves romantic novels will enjoy. Often with these types of stories, the author includes a lot of cheesy dialogue and situations that just aren't believable. That is not the case with this story. While the idea of the "average" girl landing a billionaire is a bit of a far-fetched dream, Lakes does make the characters seem believable and their situations plausible. If you're looking for a well-written book with interesting characters, snappy dialogue, and some steamy love scenes, you need look no further. It's all here. Recommended.
Emma is from a small town in Iowa and wants to be a veterinarian. Jack is a billionaire, lives in New York and will be taking over his father's business. Their lives couldn't be any more different. But, when they meet and spend some time together, they find out they have a lot in common. Emma goes to New York and is thrown into the lifestyle of the rich and famous. She can have anything she wants, except to live a normal life with the man she loves.
This is a fun story and to read, with some pretty hot sex scenes. There are some grammatical and spelling errors, but not enough to take away from the storyline. If you're looking for something to read this summer, this would be a great choice.
Some spoilers may follow...The author really had a great opportunity to write a much better story and missed it. The story starts out good, but falls flat at the end. There are way too many unresolved issues that just leave the reader hanging and wondering. To me, it would have been a much better story if Jack was forced to choose between the company and Emma. We just don't know if that is the case, but would any woman really marry the guy if she loved him that much and was forced to only see him at dinner and he spent every night sleeping in his office? Maybe those issues resolve after the company transfer is complete and he may have more time for her? What about her just not feeling like she belongs in New York? We never find out. Jack's parents don't seem to want Emma around. How does this issue resolve itself? We never find out. This story had a lot of potential, but was just too short for my taste. At least it was free.
I found this book to be a really easy and delightful read! The characters are well developed and the love story is sweet and charming. The romance scenes are definitely steamy! I found Emma to be relatable and witty, a perfect match for the strong and handsome Jack. I would highly recommend this book - the author's writing style is easy to follow, and I really enjoyed reading it!
What a genuine love story! I loved the characters, especially the way Emma was described. Not all characters have to be model thin! I read this book in about 6 hours ~ couldn't put it down! I laughed as well as cried! Great read!
I loved this book! It read so quickly and easily, the worst was that the ending had to happen. Props to Mrs. Lakes! I liked how she tackles the weight that would come with being swept up to riches and and the almost-royalty status that comes with it...and how sometimes it's more trouble than its worth. It's the find of fun romance that you wish yourself would be swept up in, and Lakes makes it seem like it really could happen one of these days. I'll certainly keep an eye out for more of her work in the future!
This story had a good plot, some of the characters just got in the way in my opinion. They meet on a vacation island, he a CEO, rich, etc. she a working girl that won a vacation. She doesn't know who he is and falls for him knowing that the vacation is as long as it will last. They have a fake fun wedding on the beach that turns out to be real.
It starts to go downhill from there. She is a doormat and lets his family walk all over her without ever standing up for herself. She moves into his apartment right below the family offices but he works 23 1/2 hrs. a day 7 days a week. REALLY? He would have a heart attack in 2 weeks with that schedule. He seems to do it all, no second in command. He acts like he wants to be with her but he can't find 2 mins to be alone with her. Remember if he is really into you he will find a way??? Well, he couldn't seem to find a way.
Of course, she is not good enough for the family and the mother is the bitch from hell. No spine on the part of our heroine, she just lets her walk all over her. At the island, she professes to LOVE him but when the mother asks her if she loves him she is not sure! Either you are or you aren't. She doesn't tell him about the grilling she took from his parents He comes to her room after months of not being together and the phone rings and he is off... Really? He can't take 30 mins to be with his wife? Just doesn't add up for me. Plus, her thoughts seem to be the ramblings of a nut job. I wouldn't really recommend this one, but others may find it entertaining. I just got a little put out with both the H&h.
Excellent story, this book is written really well and keeps up it's great pace the whole way throughout. The characters are all original and unique and their relationships and interactions with each other are definitely different from the norm in a completely good way. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a creatively, well-written book with a solid foundation.
