3.0 out of 5 stars Pros and Cons
I have had low iron for much of my adult life and have taken iron pills on and off for many years. I have just finished my first (and, most likely, last) bottle of Floridix. While I think this product has some advantages over regular iron pills, there are some real downsides.

I am a male endurance athlete who has had iron deficiency and borderline anemia for many years. Year after year my bloodtests would show anywhere from "low normal" to very low levels of red blood cells and also low hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. During and after hard workouts I would feel very tired and would have to rest and recover alot longer than my athletic friends who had done the same workout. I tried everything from eating red meat 3 times a week to taking various types of "iron pills". Nothing worked until I starting taking Liquid Floradix. This stuff is really amazing! After only about 4-5 days I began to feel alot stronger during my workouts and just had more energy in general throughout the day. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who has had a problem absorbing iron using the normal methods. This stuff has really changed the way I feel. Try it--you won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Energizer, April 28, 2008
I highly recommend this product. Let me share with you anecdotally why I can't praise this product enough.

I didn't realize that I've had an iron deficiency for most of my life until I came across a Floradix Iron + Herbs pamphlet. According to this pamphlet, you may have an iron deficiency if you have one or more of the following: the lines on the palm of your hands are the same color as the surrounding skin (they should be darker), you have white nail beds (I always think of the movie, "Mean Girls" ("My nail beds suck") whenever I think of nail beds), pale skin, low energy, and/or become easily winded. I had all of the above.

Previously, I had attributed my low energy to the side effects of medication. In fact, one of my former roommates always thought it was very funny when I praised someone for having a lot of energy, as though that were the pinnacle of human accomplishment. It wasn't "he's handsome, she's a computer wiz, he plays the piano beautifully" that ranked highest in my book; it was the person with the highest (focused) energy levels whom I envied and admired the most.

A few years ago after having supplemented with Floradix for many months, I visited my sister, and she couldn't get over the change in my energy levels. Instead of my usual sluggishness, I was active, and unprompted, I pitched in with household chores and whatever else needed to be done (I'm embarrassed to admit that while I'd help out here and there whenever I visited my sister, I mostly slept during my down time). She couldn't believe that the only change I had made was iron supplementation (as I already exercised regularly and ate reasonably healthy).

I have always been fair-skinned and had attributed my extreme pallor to being ginger-haired. I was always offended when people told me I looked "sickly" because of my pale skin. However, my skin tone has much more color (at least relatively speaking) since supplentation, to the point where friends who hadn't seen me in awhile thought I had started frequenting tanning salons (believe me, with two parents who've had skin cancer scares, I'd be crazy to ever go tanning).

My one caveat is that this product is expensive. A local natural health food market occasionally offers free samples of Floradix, and I 'fess up to hoarding them, especially as I have two friends who work in the vitamin department who are willing to set these samples aside for me.

This iron supplement shouldn't create toxicity if used as directed (apparently, this form of iron--ferrous gluconate--has a biofeedback mechanism that will take in iron as needed and excrete surplus iron). It isn't constipating, and I'd recommend it for pregnant and menstruating women for that reason alone.

As far as getting your iron levels checked (which I'd recommend before supplementing), Floradix distinguishes between tests that can analyze your circulating iron levels versus tests that can determine your stored iron levels. If you have an iron deficiency, it may remain under the radar, depending on the type of iron test administered.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am a mother of 5 including triplets and my Energy has come back!, November 6, 2007
My name is Yvonne Torres and I am a mother of 5 children including 6 year old triplets and a terrible but cute 2 year old. I had become very sickly and constanly tired for over a year. The stresses of life were really taking a toll. I had been diagnosed with Irritable Bowl Syndrome, which in my case meant I could go 5-7 days without being able to go to the bathroom. I had gone to the Doctor last November to have a physical and tests done. They told me everything was within normal range. I continued to be very weak and tired for 11 months. I finally went back to the Doctor for another physical. I was sobbing as I told my Doctor how tired and stressed I felt. I told her I thought I was anemic but that my previous physical had shown I was within normal range. She looked at my charts and said that that was incorrect! My iron levels were severely low, (7.8). She said she didn't know how I was functioning. I was told at a 7 they want you to get a blood transfusion. Well my doctor said to start taking iron but I was afraid that the pills would only complicate my IBS. Luckily a friend recomended the Floradix. I have been taking it for 5 weeks now and I feel so much better. My IBS symtoms are completely gone. I have a bowel movement every day sometimes twice a day. That really helps to take stress and irritability away. I don't know what exactly in the Floradix it is that has made the difference but I feel so grateful to have my health back. I ran a Marathon (26.2 miles) last September before I had become so weak and tired, what I didn't know is that I was depleting all my vitamin stores and should have been taking supplements like floradix and other multi-vitamins. Yesterday I ran 6 miles without stopping or feeling like I was going to pass out. I hadn't run more than 3 miles in over 6 months and that was with lots of walking and rest in between the running. It is amazing how important a part iron plays in our energy levels and our overall health and well being and I would recomend Floradix to anyone stuggling with anemia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, November 25, 2007
I was anemic during pregnancies. My Dr. advised taking additional iron and so I took a high quality iron in pill form but never noticed any physical improvement. During my last pregnancy I was introduced to Floradix Iron & Herbs..... WOW. Within 24-48 hours I felt like a new woman. Shortness of breath and exhaustion were gone. I had plenty of energy. I was impressed by how quickly it improved my blood levels. As claimed, this liquid absorbs into the body at a much higher rate than other forms of iron. It is gentle, no constipation. I will say that it is somewhat unpleasant tasting, but not horrible. I just wash down with a glass of water. Excellent high quality product that is absorbed well by the body. Worth the money if you are struggling with anemia. 5+ stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best free thing I've ever been given!, June 15, 2009
By
Pom Mommie (Hampton, Ga, USA) - See all my reviews
I was out doing some routine shopping when I felt like I was going to pass out. I suffer from severe anemia secondary to numerous uterine fibroids and often have "spells". I had to pass a health food store on my way to my car and decided to stop in to look for some Black Strap Molasses.

They were out of the Black Strap but the young lady felt so badly for me that she gave me a free one dose bottle of Floradix. I took it in my car before driving home. (The taste wasn't horrible. It reminded me of Noni or a slightly off tasting grape juice) I went home and took a quick nap. When I woke up, I felt more energized than I had in years. I immediately went back to the store and bought a full size bottle.

I had been on iron off and on for the past 20 years. I was currently taking a prescription iron with very little change in my levels. No iron that I had ever been given made me feel the way Floradix did. I was able to go and complete my shopping with very little fatigue, dizziness or shortness of breath.

A coworker was also suffering from anemia while pregnant. I recommended that she ask her OB if she could try Floradix. She was looking through a pregnancy magazine and saw an add for Floradix and decided to try it. She experienced the same type of results. Within 24 hours she felt like a new person.

Prior to begining the Floradix my Hb level was 6. After starting the Floradix, I was up to almost 9. Still not normal but it's the best I've been in years. I am also undergoing treatment for my fibroids so that could also be helping with my increase in energy & iron levels. I will continue to take the Floradix though as I can't deny the instant pick me up that it gave me and my coworker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Stuff take smaller dose!, August 6, 2009
By
I am giving it 5 stars because this is the first iron supplement I can take that does not make me pukey. And, unlike multi-vitamins or Total cereal which claim to have iron, but you never get results, I know my family is getting iron with this. But too much, actually. After two days on their recommended dose I felt wired and one of my teens broke out with purple dots on the toes.

None of us weigh more than 120 pounds. I have reduced our consumption to 5ml per day just in the morning. I use a syringe I got for free from the pharmacist at CVS to measure it.

I think you should measure with a syringe, too. IMHO you need to measure this stuff exactly, they aren't fooling around, it will absorb!!

I wouldn't give it to children under age 6. I would like to know how little ones are supposed to get their iron, though, since talking them into eating kale is pretty difficult.
Remember to shake before using every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Aren't More Women Taking This?, December 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The most important thing to know is you mix a small "shot" of this in a glass of OJ -- no bad taste! I became iron deficient during my first pregnancy. My midwife specified that I begin taking a liquid iron supplement rather than pills and sent me on my mission to find Floradix. I am not kidding when I tell you this made a dramatic difference and I continue to take it after my pregnancy. I noticed right away that my energy levels returned and after a few days my thinking became more clear. Longer term it has helped to decrease the number of days I have been sick from catching colds from co-workers which had always been a big problem for me. Why more women -- pregnant or not-- are not counseled to take this is beyond me. Yes it's on the pricey side when a product actually works it's worth it. Women need iron but iron pills don't digest well and the iron in pills doesn't absorb nearly as well as the liquid format does which is why my midwife recommended it initially.

5.0 out of 5 stars IRON WOMAN!!, November 8, 2008
Floradix has greatly improved my quality of life. Before taking it I always felt like I was moving in slow motion and had very little energy throughout the day. My acupuncturist recommended it to me. I've been taking it for nearly two months now and I feel like a new woman. Seriously. Even my husband and friends have noticed a difference in my energy level. The taste is OK- like a combination of prune juice and black licorice.

PROS: 1) Easy on the stomach, non-constipating. 2) Seems to work. I had a bout of low iron a few weeks ago, and things seem better now.

CONS: 1) The taste (yeck!). Although, now that I'm near the end of the 17 oz. bottle, I don't gag as much as I did at the beginning. 2) The price. Very expensive for a one-month's supply. 3) Shelf-life. One thing I did not see listed online is that the bottle must be consumed within one month after opening. If you plan on buying the large-sized bottle to save money, remember that you will have to take it twice a day in order to use it up within the month.

I had always been slightly anemic; I was constantly cold, bruised easily, felt weakened. After I began taking this, I felt amazing. I felt warm from the inside, and much stronger. It did everything it was supposed to, and it doesn't taste half-bad. I recommend it to anyone who feels like they are lacking in iron.
