No, not <Singing in the Rain>, not <All About Eve>, not <The Goodbye Girl>, not <A Star Is Born>, not <Next Stop Greenwich Village>, not <Hollywood Shuffle>.<Salut l'artiste> is funny and heartbreaking, and gives the real feel for the humiliations all actors face. Stupid assignments, having a director ruin a great performance, a personal life in shambles, it's all here and handled beautifully. Any actor will recognize this hysterical, sad set of situations, and anyone wanting to become an actor should be forced to watch this movie as a warning. And it happens to be very, very funny. |
