Warrior Soul - 'Salutations From The Ghetto Nation' (Geffen),
By
This review is from: Salutations from the Ghetto Nation (Audio CD)
This was the band's third effort. 'Salutations...', I think sounds more rounded out as well as a bit more upbeat than their first two CD's, although they were good too. I've liked every disc put out by this group. The social issues and political bull **** is very much still intact. As for the tracks that more than makes this a choice title to keep in your music collection are the title cut "Ghetto Nation", "Love Destruction",the [...] "Blown" and "Trip Rider". Overall, just a good heavy rock catalog release. Only regret I have is I never got to see vocalist Kory Clarke and crew play live. Worth checking out.

JUST AS POTENT IN 2008 AS IN 1992,

IF YOU DON'T OWN THIS CLASSIC YOU ARE DEFINITELY MISSING OUT. HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS CD CAME OUT IN 1992 BECAUSE IT IS STILL SO FRESH SOUNDING WARRIOR SOUL SHOULD OF BEEN HUGE. THIS CD IS A CLASSIC IN ALL RESPECTS. EVERY TRACK KICKS 'LOVE DESTRUCTION' DEFINITELY ONE TO CRANK UP, SHINE LIKE IT, 'PUNK AND BELLIGERENT' ANOTHER CRANKER, 'GHETTO NATION' ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVES. EVERY TRACK IS SPOT ON WITH SOME EXCELLENT MUSICIANSHIP, JOHN RICCO HAS SOME KILLER RIFFS ALL OVER THIS CD, KORY CLARKE WROTE SOME KILLER LYRICS THAT ARE STILL JUST AS POWERFUL SOME 16 YEARS LATER. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PICK UP THIS CD. YOU WILL DEFINITELY PUT IT IN HEAVY ROTATION (I BOUGHT IT IN '92 AND STILL LISTEN TO IT ALOT) I GUARANTEE IT ~ SALUTATIONS....

Pushes towards the four star mark,

Warrior Soul, vehicle of Kory Clarke who would hold an (unloaded)gun to his head at times during live gigs and who gave good quote to music journalists, were on the verge of a breakthrough with this and their other releases. But never quite got there.
The tracks here are almost uniform in their anti government stance. Govt in general but especially the US Republican Party. Of couse when you present then imminent downfall of society which WS seem to be doing here, then your really up against it - after all panic merchants have been on about the end of society since the year dot! WS on this album use a variety of ways of getting their point cross. From outright rockers like Love Destruction to the slowburn of Dimension the band are able to nag away at the listener, drawing them into a hypnotic swirl of guitar riffery. Gripes would be partly gut feeling regarding the band and musical. Firstly the way Clarke was portrayed as some some of intellectual with the utmost integrity. This is the guy who faxed a heap of copies of the front page of an article to his record company. The headline in question was 'the year punk broke'. And why was Clarke doing this - well the poor dear had tried to get his record company to sign his post WS project which was a punk band and Clarke had figured that punk was going to be the next big thing. And by the record company not going for it he'd missed the gravy train that was pop punk in the 90's. Integrity my backside... Musically the gripes would be that the album is a bit of a downer with it's constant whining and portrayal of doom and gloom. Having said that the album is musically cleverly constructed with direct and simple delivery of high brow and politically charged lyrics. Truth be told though Clarkes vocals aren't all that engaging or expressive so it does tend to stand or fall on how engaged you are by his anti govt rant. Huge points for not being a corporate sellout. At least not at this point. And certainly a band on a mission to try to educate people to their way of thinking. Thought provoking stuff in parts and certainly direct in it's messages.

STILL ROCKS AFTER ALMOST 20YEARS!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Salutations from the Ghetto Nation (Audio CD)
A solid underground masterpiece of heavy metal and rock. Recently I bought a used copy since its no easy to find in Mexico, because my original cd was stolen years ago. Fortunately I must still say this a solid and original album which reminds me Billy Idol with more power and anger in songs like Ass-Kickin and Punk and Belligerent. Full of an amazing anthems like Love Destruction, Blown, Dimension and the oscure The Fallen.
This is a must have album that emerged from the ashes of the transition of the grunge era. I put this band into a selected category of preferred underrated bands that I really enjoy and with unique sound, with different styles like Mind Bomb, Love/Hate or Pist*On.

The third release from New York's Warrior Soul, this album truly rocks. It kicks you in the head if you're not careful. Another album where the language, opinions and imagery are as powerful as the music. Any bass fan will love to listen to Pete McClanahan.

You've Made Us Very Angry.........Very Angry!!!!!!!!!!,

This review is from: Salutations from the Ghetto Nation (Audio CD)
This is an album of people who should belong in anger management. The group definitely matured from the first 2 outtings, and to me it was what they needed. A good swift kick as now they cranked out one of the angriest albums out there. It even rivals with Anthrax's "Persistence Of Time". It kicks off with "Love Destruction", and I should say it pounds off because it's ferocious. "Party and Beligerent" is I believe a cover of a underground punk group of the 70's, but it's raising Cain right here. The crescendo actually occurs on the title track which is the last song on the cd. From the mindsplitting guitar riff to the angriest vocals out there it's just full of rage, and this released shortly before Clinton was innaugurrated. Well anyway... this was thier pinnacle as thier next album "Chill Pill" bombed, and then they disappeared.

This album truly was a masterpiece of political despair and anger. Why it is not given it's proper respects I do not know. Just buy the album and experience the music for yourself. If you have never heard this album you will most likely walk away with a new outlook on the environment around you.

SALUTATIONS Shakes The Rafters,
This review is from: Salutations from the Ghetto Nation (Audio CD)
Led by the motor-mouthed Kory Clarke, this NY banshee-wail outfit's first three albums showed great intensity & craft, each new album building on the one previous; SALUTATIONS is their third and hands-down best. It would be a mistake to categorize their sound too rigidly, thus I won't try. Consistently atmospheric, unpredictable and scary-ferocious, performed with gusto and a touch of grandeur, SALUTATIONS tries a variety of approaches throughout this cd. Not only do you get anthemic powerhouses 'Love Destruction', 'Trip Rider' and 'The Party'- all of which leave cigarette burns on your cerebral cortex - but, you get equal doses of narcotically-swirling mind-expanders like 'Dimension', 'Shine Like It', 'The Golden Shore' and the title track. I realize that just a listing of titles communicates next to nothing, so let me weakly add that the sense of apocalypse hangs heavy over this cd....listening to these songs, I close my eyes and picture the rusted ruins of a once-teeming metropolis; now totally devoid of life, eddies of nuclear wind blowing yellowed newspapers through deathly-quiet streets. (That said, there are two punk metal tunes here that don't work at all and temporarily break this mood.) Clarke's lyrics - utterly mired in post-everything hopelessness - are delivered in his trademark doomsday howl, and the band is first-rate, especially guitarist John Ricco! (Had this album been released 25 years ago, he'd have his own line of Strats by now.)After this release, Clarke fired Ricco and, no surprise, Warrior Soul's collapse into self-indulgence began in earnest. Even the first two albums (LAST DECADE DEAD CENTURY and DRUGS, GOD & THE NEW REPUBLIC) are as much miss than hit, although both have good moments. But there's no question that SALUTATIONS ranks with the decade's best metal releases. Now out of print, but make a mental note to keep an eye out for this one at the better second-hand oulets.

A fantastic album. It is great to hear a hard band that has a viable opinion on our countrys state. Kory Clarke is great, as is the rest of the band. Very distinct sound! Get it ! You won't be disappointed.

If you really like this band this cd is a must, but if I wasn't a fan I'd maybe not take another chance on Warrior Soul, though Love Destruction is probobly the best song they ever wrote. Punk & Belligerent is a perfect drinking song.
