3.0 out of 5 stars Christian music continues to disappoint
The pattern of Christian music, as it breaks into a new genre, has generally been to show itself mediocre compared to the existing standards of that genre. Salvador has remained true to this general pattern. I'll admit that I had high expectations for this album. Some of my respected musician friends saw this band in L.A. and raved about it. They said it was a...

4.0 out of 5 stars Salvador, June 21, 2000

From the opening track's salvo of an extreme groove rhythm section driving a screaming horn section into funk city to the plaintive declaration of saving grace in "Crucified" this disc is a bright spot on the contemporary Christian music charts. The transmogrification of the traditional Jewish-dance style of "As David Did" into a punchy salsa arrangement, complete with verses sung in Spanish is refreshing and bursting with joyful praise. The hand waving "Ain't it Good" could be described as a fusion of Latin & Gospel, evoking a response of "Amen!" from this reviewer. Another Gospel flavored track, "Cry Holy," leans toward the anthemic and is a stirring example of a song that can and does bring me to my knees. There are more "traditional" Latin tracks and others with more pop sensibilities, but all in all this debut is a wonderful collection of finely crafted songs and arrangements. Highly recommended. If you get a chance to see these guys live, do so. They rock as hard as this disc does, Plus, they're really nice human beings as well. Talk to 'em after the show!

5.0 out of 5 stars great praise music, July 24, 2000

I saw Salvador a month ago at the DCLA Christian youth conference (they are great to see live) and immediately bought this CD. I'd suggest you do too! Salvador combines a wonderful latin beat with excellent vocal talent to produce an awesome CD. My two favorite songs on it are "Cry Holy" and "Halleluja." I also really enjoy Montanas, a Spanish song based on "if you have faith like a mustard seed, you can moves mountains."

5.0 out of 5 stars Salvador-YES!, September 24, 2000
This review is from: Salvador (Audio CD)
I bought this album on the advice of a friend who knows I like the group "Burlap to Cashmere" (especially their more latin-inspired songs). SO, never having heard one of their songs (or so I thought), I purchased it. I Popped it into my CD player and low and behold, the first song "Lord I come before you" plays. 'Hey! I thought to myself, 'I've heard this song on the radio before...' and the rest is history. While the first song is not my favorite on the album ( I especially enjoy the songs "Montana", "Cry Holy" and "Alabar: Al Senor"), I truly love this album! It's fun to listen to, gets your heart a pumpin' (great for my long drive to work in the morning!) and these guys really pack some powerful lyrics into their songs. They love and worship the Lord! Salvador is very similar sounding to "Burlap to Cashmere", which I consider a good thing. And since Latin music is kinda 'the thing' right now, I hope they do very well. I look forward to hearing more from them and to seeing them in concert when they come to my area next month! Good job guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Awesome, September 9, 2000
This review is from: Salvador (Audio CD)
Not a big Salsa fan, but after hearing "Lord I Come Before You" on the radio, and checking out the tracks, I gave this CD a try. There aren't enough superlatives to describe this CD, which has immediately become my favorite. The blend of upbeat, steering-wheel pounding, pulse-thumping, adrenaline-rushing tracks with deeply spiritual softer harmonies make this group one of the hottest in Christian music today. I can't wait to hear what's next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saw Them Live, October 10, 2001
This review is from: Salvador (Audio CD)
Salvador performed live at the Promise Keeper's Conference in Houston, Texas this weekend. I have seen lots of Christian bands and praise & worship teams perform live, and these guys absolutely take the cake. I was amazed at their vitality and joy in praising Jesus Christ combined with their musical ability which is second to none. Christian music is often criticized by the secular world as being substandard somehow -- but these guys obviously take their musicianship very seriously. The excellence and all-out, cut-loose approach is tangibly fresh and alive and I loved every second of their concert. The trumpet and trombone players had wild solos and the frontman's voice is strong, powerful... I could go on and on.

God has given these guys amazing talent. I am so glad I bought this CD. The songs are all uplifting, and I love the ones in Spanish. My favorite of them all is Crucified, but all of the songs are wonderful. If you buy this CD, you won't be disappointed.

I just read the review from the guy in Dallas. He has to be crazy not to love this album. I've been tracking this band for a while now and can honestly say his is the first negative review of this band I have ever seen! I have seen Salvador perform several times many of which were before this album came out. I was a little apprehensive because many times a CD can't hold water to a live show. I admit that there is nothing as great as the "live experience" but when Salvador released this album, I was pleasantly surprised. I can put this CD on at home, in the car, or anywhere and feel the Spirit of the Lord all over. God truly has a calling on these gentlemen, otherwise they wouldn't have the ability to affect as many people as they do... This band is touching people's lives everywhere they go, and sacrificing of themselves to do so. They have the most hectic tour schedule of any band and yet they stay for hours after each show just to visit with fans. Anytime Salvador comes within 300 miles of where I live, I go see them. I love this band.

I heard Salvador's "Lord I Come Before You" on the WOW 2001 album. It reminded me of Santana, and it quickly became one of my favorite songs. I got a hold of the album, and I was thrilled. I absolutely love "La Montana" and actually felt delivered from obstacles after listening to it SEVERAL times. It's a great cut. I found "Hallelujah" to be a lively and uplifting song. "Alabar Al Senor" and "With God" are very moving songs. In short, I would suggest this CD for anyone who loves to dance before the Lord. I can't wait for their next CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most dynamic bands- secular or christian!, February 11, 2001

[....] Salvador is one of the best live bands around. I was hooked the first time I heard "Lord, I come before you" on the radio. I immediately thought of Blood, Sweat, and Tears and early 70's Santana. But after seeing them in concert with Third Day here in Cincinnati, I had to have their album. Their songs are even more energetic and powerful live than on the album, which is rare anymore. The guys are extremely tight on stage, especially the percussion! "Ain't it Good" is still my favorite, but there isn't a bad track on the album. I met the band after the concert, and you will be hard pressed to find a group of young men more dedicated to God and family, and to spreading the word of Salvation. Their name says it all! Keep up the good work and hurry up with the next album!!!!!!
