About the Artist
All the material was composed by Pete Ahonen and Jukka Kyrö, and the ten tracks (plus a bonus track) of Salvation By Fire were recorded in the "Neo Studio" in Oulu, the musicians' hometown in Finland. Kari Vähäkuopus, with whom Burning Point have worked for the past three years, was the album's producer . Guest musician on the album was their friend Pasi Hiltula, the keyboarder of the well-known Finnish band Eternal Tears Of Sorrow. Furthermore, Sape from the newcomer band Myon, who have just released their own highly praised debut album, came into the studio as background singer.
The attractive cover artwork is the handicraft of the American comic artist Bob Eggleton, whom Burning Point contacted via the Internet. It was a surprising request for Eggleton to be asked to do the cover artwork for a metal band.
The first traces of the band can be found in the year 1997 when guitarist Jukka Kyrö and singer / guitarist Pete Ahonen recorded a demo tape with guest musicians and sent it, under the name of Planet Caravan to several Scandinavian magazines. The press gave the four songs, the basis of which were reminiscent of early Black Sabbath, very positive reviews. Thus encouraged, Kyrö and Ahonen began the search for permanent band members and, in the form of drummer Jari Kaiponen they found a perfect partner. With Kaiponen's help contact was also made to bass player Toni "Jöpe" Kansanoja who joined the band as the fourth member. With the new line-up they changed their band name to Burning Point and immediately began to write new song material. After only two rehearsal sessions together Burning Point were able to present two hot metal songs, "Under The Dying Sun" and "Higher", which shortly after, together with "Fall Of Thy Kingdom", were burned onto a demo CD in Autumn 1999. The fantastic reviews in Finnish magazines and rotation on numerous rock radio stations led to the band receiving an offer from a small Scandinavian label to finance a complete album, in order to help Burning Point climb the international ladder. At the band's first concert in Winter 2000, at which they had around 600 metal fans headbanging themselves to the point of dizziness, Burning Point also underlined their terrific talent as a live band. Only a few months later the quartett returned to the "Neo Studio" in Oulo in order to work on the songs for their debut album, Salvation By Fire with producer Kari Vähäkuopus. The recordings alone took three weeks, the mix required two weeks more. The result sounded so promising that the Hamburg melodic metal label, Limb Music Products (Rhapsody, Mob Rules etc.) promptly offered the four Finns a contract and secured the rights for Salvation By Fire. Following the release in October 2001 Burning Point will tour Finland and will hopefully soon be on the road through Germany and neighbouring countries.
