5.0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding? This is absolutely essential!!!
How in the world can there be complaints about this?! This is outstanding!!! The remastering is wonderful and the songs are perfect! Obviously, the other reviewers are not big Sam & Dave fans for them and others who would like just an introduction or a nice package of the hits then "The Very Best Of Sam & Dave" is highly recommended. This is for real Sam & Dave fans. The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some great stuff, but too much unnecessary
I take a back seat to no one in my adoration of Sam & Dave. However, I must say that this 2 disc collection has too much of what is not needed - a Public Service Announcement about staying in school, and a handful of unreleased cuts (which never saw the light of L.P. grooves for a reason). The live cuts somehow do not seem to capture the Sam & Dave energy.

This review is from: Sam & Dave Sweat 'n' Soul: Anthology (1965-1971) (Audio CD)
The passion in these recordings as well as in the production thanks to Issac Hayes is amazing. Its every thing a real soul aficiando could want and I still recommend the studio albums with this even though most of the songs appear on this set. I love it and if you love Sam & Dave you will too!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars STAX'S STAR DUO, December 10, 2000

Never as deep as OTIS REDDING, SAM AND DAVE had nevertheless many hits and were popular in the sixties. The first record of this collection is wonderful, collecting vintage material written by ISAAC HAYES AND DAVID PORTER;a live version of SAM COOKE'S SOOTHE ME;the song TOE HOLD covered by many soul stars like WILSON PICKETT and others.DISC 2 unfortunally goes overtime, even if the first two songs:I THANK YOU AND WRAP IT UP are good. It's just like witnessing the decline of the duo, and that's a little sad to hear them overdoing it a little.

For half the cash, you can get all the hits on Rhino's "Very Best of..." collection.
