Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Reviewed with Mary Labatt's Sam Gets Lost.

PreS. A white, fluffy puppy is the star of these two entries in the Kids Can Read series. In Lost, Sam takes a ride with his owners, Joan and Bob, but decides there's more fun going on outside the car and escapes. He enjoys nosing around, but then he realizes Joan and Bob are lost. There's some slight adventure before his owners find him--or vice versa. In School, Sam once again takes a powder, this time heading onto a school bus, which takes him to class. Although the plots of these books are nothing special, the volumes do engender a friendly feeling. Sam looks more like a stuffed animal than a real dog, but the softly colored paintings work nicely in conjunction with the words and will keep kids turning pages. Ilene Cooper

These are great books for 1st graders who are learning to read by themselves. He is a great little dog who likes to get into everything, but really funny too. It tells little stories about his day, and what he got into.

I am getting the whole series, my girls love them.Great bedtime stories.

This review is from: Sam Goes to School (Kids Can Read) (Paperback)
My 2 1/2 loves all of the Sam stories and we read them over and over! He is able to predict the words that are coming which is a good start to reading. I only wish there were more stories to buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A cute little book, November 1, 2004
This review is from: Sam Goes to School (Kids Can Read) (Paperback)
This was a fun book to read with my first grader. He enjoyed it, as did I. I noticed, that it represented many different ethnic groups(asian, hispanic, african american, caucasian, etc....) The book was fun, as it would be something that could "almost" happen to a little dog. Sam, the little dog, ends up at school, without her owners knowing it. It goes on to tell of the mischief and adventure she gets into, as well as how she is returned to her owners. A great little first reader book.
