5.0 out of 5 stars JUST BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS
I have been a cross stitch addict for about 30 years and have always been a Sam Hawkins fan. This book is full of designs that really show Mr. Hawkins' skill as a cross stitch designer. From small simple and easy to stitch motifs, to 4 large absolutely beautiful pieces of fine art stitchery for each of the 4 seasons.
These 4 (detailed and intricate) patterns to me...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun Designs, but a bit expensive
As the title suggests this book has four chapters, one for each season. For each season there's a sampler and simple but practical, functional projects and a number of colorful, playful almost childlike designs: scarecrows, ducks, flowers, fruit and angels to name a few. The winter season includes an interesting Santa stocking and some tree ornaments. This book is suitable...

These 4 (detailed and intricate) patterns to me were worth the cost of the book itself. I cannot express enough the beauty of these designs and found the price to be very much worth it to me. A very excellent selection of designs for all seasons. THANKS AGAIN TO SAM HAWKINS FOR A GREAT DESIGN COLLECTION.

The winter season includes an interesting Santa stocking and some tree ornaments. This book is suitable for different skill levels, but mostly from simple to medium, the charts are color coded, , but I think the price is a bit too steep for the patterns offered. The "501 cross stitch designs" book is more packed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes My Fingers Itch, February 6, 2010

I don't know why but I'm always suprized at how incredibly creative some cross-stitch artists are. Sam is one of them. This book blows me away for it's style, technique and subject matter. Imagine, taking a simple fruit motif and turning it into a stand alone work of art. Sam does that, and then he gives us a delightfully complex and realistic, bird and floral piece in brilliant color and challenging design. It's as though he's saying, "come on, you can do this!" And, the next thing I know, I hold a small masterpiece in my hand to be given as a gift next Holiday Season. No wonder he is a past master and so is his book. From simple to complex this book is enticing. It makes my creative juices flow just turnning the pages. Sam gets my highest vote.

3.0 out of 5 stars For the More Experienced Stitcher, September 10, 2011
By

Sam Hawkins' Cross Stitch Seasons is a cross stitch book loaded with cute traditional country cross stitch designs. My biggest complaint is that most of the designs are filled with 1/4 cross stitches or intricate backstitch that can drive a new or poorsighted stitcher bananas. I would love to have seen more beginner-friendly designs in the book. Also, the designs don't specify how many strands of floss to use in stitching them, and I'm not sure if new stitchers know to generally use 2 strands of floss for cross stitches and 1 strand of floss for backstitches. However, if you are an experienced stitcher who favors traditional country cross stitch designs, you'll love this book!
