What a riot!, February 26, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sam & Max Hit the Road
Sam & Max Hit the Road is a laugh riot! I truly laughed out loud many times while playing this computer game. There are too many games out there that contain things you wouldn't want your children to see. Not so with Sam & Max. This is just good, clean fun with unexpected, bizarre (in a fun way) things happening. You never know what strange thing is going to come up next! A wild and weird carnival? A giant ball of string? Bigfoot? They're all here. It's a game you won't want to stop playing... it's just too much fun!
I've heard that an updated version of this game might be released in the future. I certainly hope so. I'll be the first to order it!

"Where can we put this [bomb] so it doesn't hurt anyone we know or care about?", March 9, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sam & Max Hit the Road
I'm sure a number of newcomers to the Sam n Max episodic series of 2006/2007 are curious if the original PC adventure holds up against modern standards. The uncontested answer is yes, it holds up extremely well. Sam n Max Hit the Road is a classic, and a gem of a collector's item for adventure gaming enthusiasts. The voice acting is stellar (albeit lower audio quality to meet requirements of the time). The humor is constantly witty, the environments are clever, and the one-liners never stop until the credits roll.
People worried about compatibility with modern operating systems / architecture need not worry. Avid PC users will most likely get the game to run fine under Windows XP with a little work. Others who have access to an older DOS based computer with any commonly used legacy sound card will have no troubles (Sound Blaster Compatible, Pro Audio 16, etc.) For those who don't want to invest as much time into getting the game to run natively, ScummVM (Available free online) will run the game like a charm with virtually no work at all. Emulation in the form of DosBox (another free program) will allow Sam n Max to work fine as well, although requiring a little more effort and knowledge of older systems.
The game manual and hint book included has a fair amount of comedic content in it as well, making the entire package a great deal.
A few of many great elements of the game:
CarBomb / Battleship mini-game ("You destroyed my Desoto, You hurt my Hearse!")
The original highway surfing mini-game
Jesse James's pickled hand
A trip into lousy early 90's "Virtual Reality"
The tunnel of love
Snuckey's national chain of diners / gas stations (with a cameo of Bernard from Maniac Mansion)
The original liberation of Bosco's from thieves.
Talking dead animal heads / tribute to John Muir
Bungee jumping out of the noses of Mount Rushmore into tarpits
Traveling through the vortex
Whack a Mole!
If you've never experienced the original Sam n Max, you will be very happy with this package. If you have experienced the original and are wondering if playing it again is worth the nostalgia value, again, you won't be disappointed. The first PC adventure of gamers' favorite hyperkinetic rabbity-thingy and a talking dog was a pinnacle achievement of a genre long missed.

Fond Memories, December 5, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sam & Max Hit the Road
Wow, It's been a long time since I've last played this game. during the seven years since Sam & Max graced my monitor last, it has remained as one of my favorite games of all time. It's a point-and-click adventure, But one with witty, snappy diolauge and cartoony animation borrowed from the Hilarious Comic Books and short-lived TV series. My I sorely need to play this game again!
