5.0 out of 5 stars CC, Krys, And Francis make up S7 and they ROCK!, October 8, 2000
By
This review is from: Samantha 7 (Audio CD)
This record though short and lacking in the "flashy Poison guitar solo's" is nothing short of amazing! When I first heard about the stepmothers as they were known I had my doubts. Sure CC can play the guitar like no one, but could he sing? Would his songs hold water? Well, the answer to both is yes. this CD was made the old fashioned was, they went into the studio, plugged in and beat the songs onto a CD. there are no corny effects and overdubbs. no bad mixes, they just play the hell out of the songs! Though this is CC's band and his songs, the charactar of the band is Krys, and the glue that sticks this band together is Francis on drums. This man is an amazing drummer! I have seen them live in concert twice, and another show is soon approaching. They sound even better live than they do on the CD. They are truely electrifying. If you love good music PERIOD, then get this CD. It may be short, but it's a masterpiece. Someone else posted here and said you "could tell Bret wrote the songs in Poison" that person couldn't be any more wrong. The songs are catchy, and roll together great. Bret couldn't write a shopping list. These songs are trademark Poison tongue in cheek showing who REALLY wrote songs in Poison, but that doesn't matter S7 isn't Poison, they aren't even close. It's a totally different kind of music, and it's GREAT!! Get this CD!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Pop-Punk!, July 10, 2001

Doesn't Matter (New York City, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samantha 7 (Audio CD)
People know of Samantha 7 because of C.C. Deville and the fact that he is the lead guitarist for Poison. Well, a few people seem to know of Samantha 7, not too many. I think some people may have expected this album to simply be a continuation of Poison for C.C. or possibly an attempt at establishing himself as a guitar virtuoso. This album does neither. This album is pure, fun, pop-punk. The amazon.com links suggest that if you like Poison, Pretty Boy Floyd or LA Guns then you should check out S7. I don't think that really works. I think the truth of the matter is that if you like bands like Sum 41, Fenix TX, Green Day and Blink 182 then you should check out S7. Best analogy of Sammy7, The Offspring with better guitars.

The band plays tight and fast. The songs are quick and catchy upbeat songs with a great tongue in cheek sense of humor. "Framed" kicks of the album and establishes everything that is to come. Catchy guitar riffs and lyrics like "she had a comb, but she said it was a knife. I was alone, and I was too scared to put up a fight. I know I said I'd never do it again. I didn't know she was one of your friends. I told her no, she didn't listen, she forced herself down on me! I was FRAMED! I'M A VICTIM!"

"Hanging Onto Jane" is a bit more somber in tone and mood, but hey, its C.C. Deville. It can't get too gloomy, right? The mood picks up again real quick with "I Wanna Be Famous". The simple and pointed lyrics are what really do it for these songs. "Another Awards show, Stars in every row, I'm sitting here alone, Bleeding from my heart and soul, I go to every movie, And I got cable TV, I feel like I know them all, But no one knows me, And I...., I, I wanna be famous, I, I wanna be a star, I, I want to be on the "A" list, I want Gwyneth in my arms". The songs are a riot.

The songs keep the fast and fun punk vibe going throughout the CD. Some of the later songs do sound a bit heavier, and C.C. shows a bit more of his prowess on guitar, but not enough to make that a stand out feature of the album. The short and catchy Ramones inspired tunes are the feature, and they sound great. If you're a fan of pop-punk, and believe life should be taken more serious than music, then this is a great album for you and you should give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Retirning to rock as it should be...., September 3, 2000
By
This review is from: Samantha 7 (Audio CD)
Hail to Samantha 7 and C. C... They, like Cheap Trick and the Posies bring back rock and roll to its true form with no expectations... no formulaic top 40 styles, just playing for the fans with no fear of commercialistic pressures--- Maybe rock stations will eventually allow some of this stuff into their stagnant formats and bring back some energy to the airwaves....
