CC, Krys, And Francis make up S7 and they ROCK!,
By Richard L Horvath (Las Vegas, NV USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samantha 7 (Audio CD)
This record though short and lacking in the "flashy Poison guitar solo's" is nothing short of amazing! When I first heard about the stepmothers as they were known I had my doubts. Sure CC can play the guitar like no one, but could he sing? Would his songs hold water? Well, the answer to both is yes. this CD was made the old fashioned was, they went into the studio, plugged in and beat the songs onto a CD. there are no corny effects and overdubbs. no bad mixes, they just play the hell out of the songs! Though this is CC's band and his songs, the charactar of the band is Krys, and the glue that sticks this band together is Francis on drums. This man is an amazing drummer! I have seen them live in concert twice, and another show is soon approaching. They sound even better live than they do on the CD. They are truely electrifying. If you love good music PERIOD, then get this CD. It may be short, but it's a masterpiece. Someone else posted here and said you "could tell Bret wrote the songs in Poison" that person couldn't be any more wrong. The songs are catchy, and roll together great. Bret couldn't write a shopping list. These songs are trademark Poison tongue in cheek showing who REALLY wrote songs in Poison, but that doesn't matter S7 isn't Poison, they aren't even close. It's a totally different kind of music, and it's GREAT!! Get this CD!!

Great Pop-Punk!,
By Doesn't Matter (New York City, NY) - See all my reviews

People know of Samantha 7 because of C.C. Deville and the fact that he is the lead guitarist for Poison. Well, a few people seem to know of Samantha 7, not too many. I think some people may have expected this album to simply be a continuation of Poison for C.C. or possibly an attempt at establishing himself as a guitar virtuoso. This album does neither. This album is pure, fun, pop-punk. The amazon.com links suggest that if you like Poison, Pretty Boy Floyd or LA Guns then you should check out S7. I don't think that really works. I think the truth of the matter is that if you like bands like Sum 41, Fenix TX, Green Day and Blink 182 then you should check out S7. Best analogy of Sammy7, The Offspring with better guitars. The band plays tight and fast. The songs are quick and catchy upbeat songs with a great tongue in cheek sense of humor. "Framed" kicks of the album and establishes everything that is to come. Catchy guitar riffs and lyrics like "she had a comb, but she said it was a knife. I was alone, and I was too scared to put up a fight. I know I said I'd never do it again. I didn't know she was one of your friends. I told her no, she didn't listen, she forced herself down on me! I was FRAMED! I'M A VICTIM!" "Hanging Onto Jane" is a bit more somber in tone and mood, but hey, its C.C. Deville. It can't get too gloomy, right? The mood picks up again real quick with "I Wanna Be Famous". The simple and pointed lyrics are what really do it for these songs. "Another Awards show, Stars in every row, I'm sitting here alone, Bleeding from my heart and soul, I go to every movie, And I got cable TV, I feel like I know them all, But no one knows me, And I...., I, I wanna be famous, I, I wanna be a star, I, I want to be on the "A" list, I want Gwyneth in my arms". The songs are a riot. The songs keep the fast and fun punk vibe going throughout the CD. Some of the later songs do sound a bit heavier, and C.C. shows a bit more of his prowess on guitar, but not enough to make that a stand out feature of the album. The short and catchy Ramones inspired tunes are the feature, and they sound great. If you're a fan of pop-punk, and believe life should be taken more serious than music, then this is a great album for you and you should give it a try.

Retirning to rock as it should be....,

Hail to Samantha 7 and C. C... They, like Cheap Trick and the Posies bring back rock and roll to its true form with no expectations... no formulaic top 40 styles, just playing for the fans with no fear of commercialistic pressures--- Maybe rock stations will eventually allow some of this stuff into their stagnant formats and bring back some energy to the airwaves....

Amazing CD,

It really sucks that Samantha 7 is not getting the attention that they deserve because this CD is incredible. Within my first week of purchasing, I listened to it so much that I basically wore it out. It's a fun, refreshing album with songs that are really catchy. The highlights of the album are Framed, I Wanna Be Famous, and Hollywood and Vine. It's kind of like Foo Fighters and Blink 182 meet 80's rock. I HIGHLY recommend this album.

Samantha 7 Rocks.,

Even though I am a huge fan of 1980's heavy metal and love Poison, I had my doubts that C.C. Deville could put deliver a decent album. I was wrong, C.C. put together a great album. From start to finish I was impressed. Samantha 7 is 1980's heavy metal with a litlle punk added for good measure. The songs are all catchy little tunes, like all good metal should be. I agree with the other reviews in that their isn't enough music on the album, each song is only 2:30 - 3:00 minutes long. BUY THIS ALBUM, you will not be disappointed. I hope that a follow-up album is in the near future.

sure cc is known for his flamboyant work with poison. however, don't expect to get a poison disc when you pop this into your cd player. it has an almost i wanna just have fun and i don't care what people say feel to it. it's fast, short and it rocks. instead of getting a long drawn out solo on each song, cc gives a straight ahead approach sorely missing from todays rock music. it is very reminisent of the early goo goo dolls cd's before 95. fast, fun, and a little punky. the only bummer is its over too damn quick. if it had a few more songs, but too much is really not a good thing. if all you want is to have fun jammin' out to a great summer cd this is a good place to start.

Hey all. CC DeVille from POISON has just put out a great, poppy punk CD. You can't tell it is from the guitarist of POISON...which is what I was hoping for. CC shows off a punkier, poppy, slyly written CD. Go buy it!

Part Look What the Cat dragged In, part Buzzcocks, part Ramones. Great CD. Old-school pop/power/punk. Real R&R is finally back! I wish I had C.C.'s phone # so I could call him and tell him how happy I am with this CD. It's just a shame that Poison fans will most likely not dig the fast, old punk sound and Ramones' fans will most likely not give "the dude from Poison" a chance. Buy it! Much better than anything Poison has done since its debut.

It AINT Poison folks....,

If you are a Poison fan, looking for a jones.. go someplace else. This album has zippo to do with Poison. The songs are short and sweet. Fast paced, punk influenced, pop songs. That is all it is. Nothing more nothing less. Several of the songs are VERY catchy, and I find myself singing them in the middle of the day. Framed, Hanging on to Jane, I Wanna be Famous, Slave Laura, Bury Me, Bonnie Bradley. They are all very similar, and very catchy. If you like the Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated, or Blink 182 - What's My Age Again. Then this album is for you. I would even compare the tone and pace of the record to Sex Pistols - Bodies or Liar, minus the angst. There is nothing earth shattering or revolutionary about this album, they aren't trying to save the world (thank god). They just made a great pop punk album that seems doomed to receive little to no airplay. If you like that type of music, try to get your hands on some samples of this, I think it may be for you. If you are looking for something similiar to Poison or a guitar hero (Joe Satriani) type album. Wrong place. Not only will you be disappointed you, you will be upset. I have more in common with Chewbacca than this record does with Poison. All in all the drums and bass are tight, whereas I expected some cheesy studio musician garbage. Nice surprise. The guitars are all CC. And the punk tone and attitude are there. These guys won't compete with NOFX, but it is a good record. |
