I Loved it,
By Erica "encbks" (Washington, DC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samantha (Mass Market Paperback)
I love a story where the heroine knows what she wants and the hero just falls, because love is the ultimate defeat. I thought Andrea Kane gave me a good story with adventure love and a good secondary cast I thought it was great Samantha takes charge knows what she wants and "fear is not an option" the villian was obvious but for all the right reason you need a reason not to like the villian and of course anyone who tries to break up the perfect couple is evil. the hero, a spy and protector of the innocent and loyal to his friends is one you want to hold you at night, and believe me he gave Samantha a night to remember. This love story was exquisit.

Let us study -
Lady Samantha Barrett is just barely eighteen, highly romantic, and on the look out for her own personal hero. She has complete faith in the fact that Remington Worth is that man. She has idealized her brother [I haven't read his story in MY HEART'S DESIRE] and sees him also as the ultimate hero - somehow Remington must remind her of Drake. This is Drake Barretts little sister. Drake is the Duke of Allonshire. Now we take Remington Worth, the Earl of Gresham who is apparently a good ten years or so her senior. He has decided to find out what Sammy knows about Barrett Shipping and the loss of some of their ships. This is his reasons for seeing Samantha again. As an undercover agent for The Admiralty, who like all government agencys will disclaim any knowledge of him and his cohorts, wants him to find out who is trying to destroy the incomes from shipping and the ships and men being lost. He has become the Crown's most deadly and dedicated covert agent, he poses as a notorious womanizer and gambler. What is Rem's secret that he allow's no woman into his heart. You will meet Sir Edmund Briggs, who is one of Rem's contacts. Boyd Hayword shows up, he runs the Boydry pub and is Rem's closest friend. Then the Bow Street runners, Templar and Harris who have worked with Rem before this incident. Ah, and lest we forget the buxom, flaxen-haired madam, known as Annie. Who would like to take him to her bed. As for Lady Samantha coming to London, she is finally being allowed to have her come out season under the close eye of Drake's trusted servent, Smitty. Drake has opted to stay at home because his wife, Alexandria is gifting him with a second child. His wife is very precious to him. Yup, Sammy follows Rem to Annie's, leaving Rem with the feeling he is being watched. The silly girl just about gets into trouble with some rough characters and is rescued by Cynthia who will play a second string character to Sammy. Boyd just stares at Cynthia [he is about 3 years older than Rem and even he doesn't know Rem's secret]so we see a second romance on in the making. Sammy causes Rem to suffer a bout of jealousy when Stephen Anders persues Sammy with the intentions of marrying her. Anders is also involves with the shipping of cargos from Anders Shipping warehouses. Anders claims to want to stop Rem from seducing Sammy. Oh, the story keeps getting better although some of the hot hormone induced scenes are a bit much. But on the whole, with a 18 year old determined to save her hero from himself and everyone else and a hero who is determined not to seduce a virgin, only to use her for gathering information and yet gets his mind muddled whenever he is with her, it is a very excellent read. Boy is she determined to get her night in his bed. Yup, the only discreponcy is her moral attitude, yet it comes from her ??knowledge?? that she is going to marry Rem. Definitely Recommended --m -- good moving plot - not bad characters - truly enjoyable read.

My Favorite Andrea Kane Book!,
By
This review is from: Samantha (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first Andrea Kane book and I fell in love. This is the story of Samantha whom you met briefly in "My Hearts Desire". She is Drakes little sister and she is all grown up now. Young and idealistic she is setting out for London and she is planning on meeting a knight in shining armor. One that she can call her own. Samantha is a romantic at heart and sees the good in everyone. She loves romance books and sees Remington as the answer to her dreams.Remington comes to Samantha's rescue on a rainy night and offers her his carriage so she can continue on her trip to London. This act is seen as the act of a hero for Samantha and she is set on making Remington see that he needs her. Much to her brothers dismay. Full of laughs, romance, and of course suspense you won't be let down by this one.

Don't Bother....this taking the word "naive" too far...,
By
This review is from: Samantha (Mass Market Paperback)
I simply adored Anrea Kane's other books but this book just did not do anything for me. For one, the heroine, Samantha was just a tad too naive and innocent. She based everything on her gothic books. Practically everything about her annoyed me and the circumstances around her. How could her brother, Drake, just let her come out on her first season with a senile, half deaf aunt and a male servant? Doesn't that strike you odd when the book insists that he's very protective of his family? A contradiction I say. How about how Samantha doesn't think of her self worth and just goes head long with her decidely unimanginable romance with Remington? All the circumstances that they've been together screams scandal! nobody noticed this? oh sure supposedly her "charm" melted the socks right off her substitute chaperone, Smitty...as far as i could see her charm landed flat..if any of them really really did care, they wouldn't have let her take the risk. Samantha kept saying she loved him and thats the reason she's going all out and not thinking of the scandal she could cause. How come her brother seems blissfully unaware of his sister's activities? Doesn't he receive any reports? oh sure he learns by the end but it WAS KINDA TOO LATE BY THIS TIME. Then how 'bout Samantha learning about Rem thinking that it might have been her brother doing all the conspiracy? she didn't even work up a good rage..all she said was instead of "Remington Worh" it should have been "Remington WorthLESS" WOW i could certainly feel the sting there...jeez i cant even go on anymore coz I stopped right there..at that lame insult she gave him...simply unbelievable

Horrid!,

I must completely disagree with the other reviewer! This was torture to read through. Aside from the terrible writing, Samantha is such a spoiled brat, that there was no way I could root for her. Don't waste your time or money!
