2.0 out of 5 stars Great 80s pop/dance.... but what's with the bad edit?
Any real fans of Samantha Fox will already own these songs. But for casual fans or those just looking to add some 80s hits to their music collection, prepare for disappointment. This review is from: Samantha Fox - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Well-known for her nude spreads on he front pages of several U.K. newspapers and for her sex-laden past, Samantha Fox was the U.K.'s answer to Madonna to a certain extent. Although she didn't score too many hits either in the U.K. or stateside, Samantha still is considered one of the 1980's club divas.

With the production/songwriting help of the popular American R&B group of Full Force, Samantha scored her two biggest hits ever. Full Force, fresh from their work with Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, and before they starred in the "House Party" films of the early 1990's wrote and produced the two most widely popular songs on this album: "I Wanna Have Some Fun," and "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too." Both songs, which feature fast and catchy beats, and Samantha rapping at times were number one hits in the U.K. and the U.S. and sealed Samantha's fame among the dance divas of that decade.

Other great songs on this album include the club tune "Love House" and one of her few, non-dance pop songs, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now." Both songs round the top four songs on this album, and the other songs are good, but less memorable than these.

While I am only very familiar with four of the songs of this album, I still rate it a 5 because it is one of the only few Samantha albums you can find on the market today. I was only disappointed that the album's version of "Naughty Girls" is a shortened version of the original album version. Besides this flaw, "Samantha Fox: Greatest Hits" is a must-have for anyone who thrived and grew up on eighties music.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD, October 11, 2005
This review is from: Samantha Fox - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
It is a sacrilege that Samantha Fox is regarded as a joke, a topless model who had a bunch of hits. She did more than that. First of all only a couple of her huge hits were produced by Stock Aitken and Waterman, and obviously have not stood the test of time very well, they were very much a thing of their time. All the rest are respectable music tracks. He first album "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" spawned 4 hit singles (Touch Me, Do Ya Do Ya, Hold On Tight, I'm All You Need) , and only "Hold On Tight" is a bit cheesy pop.
Then she teamed up with SAW and did "Samatha Fox" (hits: Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now, I Surrender, Naughty Girls), a great album, then "I Wanna Have Some Fun" which is already more in that urban dance from the US that was becoming popular in the late late 80s, (hits: I Wanna Have Some Fun, Love House -very good-, I Only Wanna Be With You). Then she kinda went off to the US and did "Just One Night" which is really a more r&b album, very us-influenced and I never got into it much. After many collections she has done an album she recorded in her own studio, called "21st Century Fox" in like 1997, repackaged a couple of years later as "Watching Me, Watching You". This last one is a bit eurodiscotrash, as the songs sound not very professional, you can hear they are not big-budget stuff, but yet it's a very good album and if you like Sammy you have to get it. Late October 2005 sees the Canadian-only release (apparently) of her new album "Angel With An Attitude" and I can't wait to see what it sounds like.

PS to that reviewer. Trash music is at the core of the us music biz too, just take a look at britney baby ok? that's just one example. Oh, and Sammy is still singing, just for you I bet ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Remember when.......?, September 12, 2000
This review is from: Samantha Fox - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
you were 17 and went cruising with your dudes? You were probably blasting old Metallica or Guns-n-Roses, smoking cheap cigarettes and passing around a bottle of Boone's Farm. Well there were other nights too. You were probably in the back seat of your girlfriend's car, parked in some dark hidden place. If you were lucky she had Samantha Fox on the tape deck. She'd be singing along to 'Touch Me' as you were copping a feel. Well those days are long gone, and that old girlfriend is somebody's wife now with a couple of kids. But the memories remain. Samantha Fox was queen of the hip-hop eighties. These teeny-bobber girl singers of today should take a lesson from Sam. She didn't write her own songs either, but her sexuality could be felt through the speakers. C'mon you know you couldn't walk down a record store ailse without looking at her album covers. She was great, she was the 80's. Oh I miss those days...............

5.0 out of 5 stars Sa-Sa-Samantha Fox!-Guilty Pleasure, December 4, 2004
This review is from: Samantha Fox - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
With Greatest Hits albums you either get it all (Taylor Dayne's Greatest Hits) or you don't get it (Whitney Houston's Greatest Hits)but there's an exception to Samantha Fox's Greatest acomplishments, she gives you the greatest hits and more. Listening to the radio back when I was a little thing, I would hear "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" and I always you to just scream out the chorus with my mom laughing at me, now as I've gotten older-well 18 years to be exact-I started building my CD collection with music that was popular when my parents were young (and yes,I own Usher's Confessions AND this CD-shocked?). I asked for this CD for my 18th birthday and I was actually glad I did.
I know Samantha Fox does not have the diva stylings of Mariah, Whitney or Alicia but she does have some damn catchy little dance numbers. With the hard rock that came with her debut album back in '85, "Touch Me" (her 1st single) and "Do Ya Do Ya" showcase catchy choruses, hard rocking guitars and Sam really belting out the rock formula. And when she was bored with that, in '87 she came out with her self-titled album and came up with some Bubbilicious pop and suave hip-hop. "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now" has that SAW's production smeared all over it with it's poppy and guitar driven beat. "I Promise You (Get Ready)" sounds like a more upbeat Dead or Alive track with some great keyboard jams. "I Surrender" makes you feel that you are walking down a cold, dark city street. A very haunting 80's track. A nice little cover tune of the Rolling Stone's classic "Satisfaction" and I was surprised at the R&B/rock arrangement it had, wayyyy better than Britney Spears's version. "Naughty" done by the jamming Full Force who gave Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam their wings, do their usual good job on giving Sam an urban edge by letting her rap. A Samantha Fox classic! She reteamed with Full Force for her 3rd outing in '89 with "I Wanna Have Some Fun" which can easily be called "Naughty Girls (Still Need Love)" which has a rhythm change, new lyrics but with a twist of "NGNELT" in it. Dusty Springfield's "I Only Wanna Be With You" get's the Sam Fox touch and a dance club track "Love House" are evident. From Sam's overlooked 4th effort, the sultry but funny Full Force produced, "Just One Night" (love the sax solo)and the verry catchy and cute "Another Woman (Too Many People)" are also included on this disc.
Samantha gives us some unreleased tracks like the rockin' keyboard frenzy of "Givin' Me A Hard Time" which easily could have been a single and the beautiful "Even In The Darkest Hours" which shows that Sam can pull off a ballad. And if that's not enough Sam also includes a small litte "Megamix" which includes some of her biggest hits in a remix project.
Some bad moments include the terrible "Hot Lovin'" and rockabilly horror of "Hold On Tight" along with "Spirit Of America" which isn't bad as the other two (I still listen to it) but Samantha is not from America (She's a Brit) so why should she care about our spirit? And it sounds like a leftover 80's Bruce Springsteen wannabe for something that was made in 1991.
All in all, this is one of my favorite Greatest Hits albums that I own. It hits all the bases and then gives us something else we can feel. Some other notable Sam tracks that I kinda wish were on here are the haunting "Dream City", soulful "The Best Is Yet To Come" and dreamy "True Devotion" from her '87 self-titled and also a song that she did with Full Force that was featured on one of their albums which is called, "All I Wanna Do.." which is a great dance number. It's a shame that Samantha isn't recording any hits lately, she had some great dance songs but I know whenever I need a pick me up, I can pop this in and sing "I Wanna Have Some Fun" at the top of my lungs and everything will be right in the world. A pure pop/dance delight!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Could Be Foxier, May 29, 2000
This review is from: Samantha Fox - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I am a huge Sam Fox fan and when I saw this album, I was overjoyed! There are some of her less-than-stellar tracks (Just One Night, which *is* funny at the end, Hold On Tight, and in my opinion, her worst song - Spirit of America), but there are also some great Sam tunes. You get the rare radio edits of "Naughty Girls," "I Wanna Have Some Fun," and "Love House." You also get the brilliant video version of "Another Woman (Too Many People)." Along with those gems comes three rare b-sides "Hot Lovin'" (from the "Hurt Me" single), "Giving Me A Hard Time," & "Even In The Darkest Hours" (from a rare Japanese remix CD). And even more fun - there's a hidden 18th track - the Sam Fox UK Megamix. Although it's only four and a half minutes, it's very cool to have and a true rarity. Don't miss this CD if you're a Foxy fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely multitalented Samantha, December 28, 2000

For all those of you who only thought that Samantha Fox was only good Naked, think again!! This album amazed me. Her biggest hit "Touch Me" first introduced me to Sam Fox in 1990. I only purchased this album because I had wanted THAT song, and it was at a good price. It turned out to be one of the best buys I've ever made. Thanks to the brilliant songwriters, one is exposed to the sheer power of Sam's ability, and voice. She moves from a power-pop track like "Touch Me", to a power-rock track in "Do you Wanna Please me" (This one is heavy), to the most beautiful ballad in "Even in the darkest hours". She can even do a strange rap-type in "Just one night alone", which I found out of place, but enjoyable. Here we get to hear her voice with few instrumental accompaniments, while pretending to be a woman describing her sexual satisfaction. It's pretty sensual, and can invoke a giggle toward the end. Other songs like "Spirit of America" and "Too many people" once again move into the power-rock phase. "Hot Loving" is the only song which didn't catch my fancy. I won't describe "Touch Me", listen to it, even if you don't anything else.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great 80s pop/dance.... but what's with the bad edit?, June 13, 2006
This review is from: Samantha Fox - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Any real fans of Samantha Fox will already own these songs. But for casual fans or those just looking to add some 80s hits to their music collection, prepare for disappointment. The songs are catchy, but the first time I played this disc I was caught off-guard: the most popular U.S. single, "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" is a poorly edited version, not one that any radio stations played. I can't figure out why they'd decide to make the edits. On top of that, I can't figure out who decided that the edits actually sound good... when I heard them, I was convinced that my CD was scratched. They were THAT noticeable.

The short story: If you want "Naughty Girls", find it on another compilation.

If you are just discovering Samantha Fox this is the album you would want to get and no other album because this album features all the top ten songs she ever had in her career and many other songs you may not have heard until you bought this album. I think Samantha Fox was ignored by most people as a model but she was talented in the music scene as well. Try this album and give Samantha Fox just one more try.
