Just a nice little doll, July 13, 2005
This review is from: Samantha Mini Doll (American Girl) (Toy)
This doll is 6 1/2" tall with more-or-less the proportions of an 18" American Girl doll. Its construction is the same as the AG doll, with the soft torso, articulated limbs (joined at the shoulders and hips) and a tied-on head with the little string hanging down the back. The only major difference is the eyes. The eyes are painted on, not sleep eyes as the larger dolls have.
Mini Samantha doesn't have too many small parts to get lost, unlike some of the other AG Minis, which come with glasses or hair barrettes. She comes wearing a miniature Samantha "Meet" dress with matching hair ribbon, white bloomers, black tights and black shoes. The little book she comes with is just the right size for an 18" doll to "read."
The one drawback is that American Girl doesn't make extra clothes for their AG Mini Dolls, which is a shame since the AG Mini clothes are so nice; but the dolls can wear Barbie clothes (with a bit of altering, if you want a better fit) for a little style variation.
These really are sweet little dolls and nicely made--"a doll for your American Girl doll," as it's been marketed. Whether the price is worth it for a doll of this size is something you need to decide for yourself.

6" tall- still big enough for some fun, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Samantha Mini Doll (American Girl) (Toy)
I have to say that I tried not to heed the customer review warnings that these mini american girl dolls are too small. I was worried by those reviews that claimed that this doll is as big as a Barbie's little sister Kelly doll. The Kelly doll is only 3". It may not seem like a big difference.... but 6" is really twice the size of the little Kelly doll when side by side. This Samantha doll is slightly bigger than a Strawberry Shortcake doll... and my girls have plenty of fun with Strawberry and Shortcake & friends. Kelly on the other hand usually is left in the box. So, I ordered a couple AG dolls to find out for myself.
I'm glad I didn't listen because the Samantha doll arrived today and it is adorable. I think my daughters will love playing with these dolls. They love the American Girls Samantha and Felicity, and I too have "Sticker shock" at the prices of the 18" dolls. Not to mention limited space in the overflowing toy closet. 12 bucks is not a bad price. Smaller dolls have cost more...Strawberry Shortcake, Madeline, even Polly pocket. It isn't the size of the doll that matters the most it is the creative mind of the child and parent making memories together.

Charming dolls - easy on the wallet and make little girls happy., December 6, 2006
This review is from: Samantha Mini Doll (American Girl) (Toy)
We have given away two of these Samantha dolls for birthday presents, and they were a big hit. The birthday girls took them out of their packaging and played with them right away. The dolls are small, maybe four inches, but that makes them more portable - easy to fit into a pocket or purse. The quality is pretty good - the head turns, the arms and legs move (but don't bend), the clothes are nice. And if the bangs don't smooth down quite right and the doll's face is not QUITE as pretty as the 18 inch doll, none of the 7 year old birthday girls cared one iota.
