These really are excellent books,
By Kurt A. Johnson (North-Central Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Samantha's Short Story Collection (American Girl) (Hardcover)
This is a set of five of the American Girls Short Stories from the series about Samantha Parkington, a nine-year-old orphan girl living in the America of 1904. In Samantha's Winter Party, Samantha feels bad that her poor friend Nellie is being snubbed by her wealthy friends - what can she do to Nellie at the center of things? When Mrs. Van Sicklen's new black pearls go missing in Samantha and the Missing Pearls, Samantha must work quickly if she is to clear Nellie's name. And when Uncle Card and Cornelia's wedding hits a snag, Samantha Saves the Wedding! In Samantha's Blue Bicycle, when Samantha falls of her new bicycle her love of the machine turns to fear, but what can she do? And finally, Samantha's Special Talent tells of the time that Samantha organized a talent show to support the public library, and learns about a special talent she never knew she had!
Each of the five little books has a wonderful story, and is richly illustrated. As an added bonus, each book's final chapter is a special section on life and the world as Samantha would have known them, which is very informative. These really are excellent books. My little daughter loves these books, as she does her American Girl doll. We both highly recommend them!

Ever wish that there were more adventures to share with Samantha? Well here they are! This book was much smaller then the other Meet Samantha books. But, just as fun. It is a must have for any Samantha fan! You won't feel cheated by the stories contents!

adorable to collect!,

ok, so admittedly, i'm a little bit over the reading level for this book...it says 8+, and i'm 8+13. but nonetheless, i'm a huge samantha fan (always and forever), and just had to buy this.
it was somewhat annoying to find that two of the stories were recognizable from the american girl magazine in the mid-90's; younger readers might even note that the rest of the stories were there, too. but as usual samantha and nellie inspired me to want to be *my* best even in my old age. the final story about the talent show was really nice. and the nice hardbound addition means this will look great on display, too, so all ages really can enjoy this. don't ignore the "looking back" sections, either - great history lesson!

Great collection of stories that kept the interest of my daughter who is 6. She reads on a 4-5th grade reading level, so I am assuming since she had no trouble with it at all; that would be the reading level.
