5.0 out of 5 stars The best book of my life, May 16, 2000
This review is from: Samara (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
I love to read romances and I liked all the books I've read. But Samara was the most beautiful love story in my life. There's no book like it. When I bought it, I didn't know Patricia Potter's Books yet. And when I opened this book in the first page, I could never imagine it would be so wonderful. The love between Samara O'Neill and Reese Hampton is so deep that you can notice in the smaller things. Patricia Potter wrote it so well, in the right words. I read this book three times and I still miss Samara and Reese. I tell everybody to read this romance,to know Samara's spirit and Reese's honor. It's just unforgettable. P.S. If you've ever read Swamp Fire, you'll love Samara more, because she is Samantha and Connor's daughter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't like this spoiled heroine, January 11, 2011
This review is from: Samara (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Samara, Patricia Potter's historical novel set during the War of 1812 has a good hero and storyline but the heroine absolutely ruined this novel for me. If I had to describe her in one word it would be spoiled.

Samara is the darling of her South Carolina family, use to getting her way, headstrong and stubborn. She desires a grand adventure so she sneaks aboard her brother Bren's ship. Bren is a privateer and the War with the British is heating up but Samara never takes this into account. She believes her brother is almost god-like, an immortal who is impervious to guns and cannons. Her speculations prove wrong when they are captured by a British Privateer.

Reese is a nobleman's son but captaining a British privateering ship. When he captures Bren's ship he is smitten by Samara. Bren is injured and an impetuous Samara says that she and Bren are husband and wife. Reese being an honorable man tries to keep his distance from Samara.

Samara is full of anger toward the captain, she strikes him twice, tries to hit him with a wine bottle and spits her fury at him constantly but she is attracted to him and for some odd reason her feelings are reciprocated.

Bren, Samara's brother, actually becomes friendly with Reese, especially when he prevents Bren's crew from being impressed by the English. Samara acts immaturely around Reese and when she returns to her native South Carolina she tells everyone what a scoundrel Reese is. However she thinks she loves him after only two weeks aboard ship and with limited conversations with the Captain.

Reese and Samara meet again and these encounters usually end up hurting Reese. He is willing to forgive but Samara is vindictive and she just cannot be loyal or understanding to Reece. She wreaks havoc in his life. She is hot headed and she is quick to get herself into trouble with her angry words and rash actions.

Reese on the other hand tends to be thoughtful and incredibly patient. He is near Sainthood at times and his self sacrificing nature is wasted on Samara. The story of the British invasion of Washington and the fighting on the high seas are well written but the romantic story between the leads was frustrating because of the immaturity of the heroine.

5.0 out of 5 stars samara,an inspiring romance, May 27, 2000

This review is from: Samara (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
samara is one of my favourite romance of all time. i only had to look at the front cover and it beckoned me to open its' pages and read its' amazing story. i applaud patricia potter for such an inspiring romance between the fabulous heroine samara and the very handsome reese.i became lost into the characters and felt alive with the almost surreal adventures and emotional amongst the turmoil.this book is one of a kind in which you never get tired of reading, the type you read and dream forever.

if you love samara,i recommend anne mather's leopard in the snow, another must-have for your bookcase.
