One of the most amazing things about Joyce's music is that she just seems to keep getting better and better! It's nice to see her giving equal billing to her husband, Tutty, on this recording. And not without good reason, because this is perhaps the "jazziest" release she's yet done. Indeed, "Samba Jazz" seems to be a genre that Joyce has come to DEFINE.
I can't say enough about this CD. It is perfection from beginning to end. Everyone plays marvelously, and Joyce is in good voice. I'm not familiar with the names of the musicians in the band; they're obviously the cream of the Brazilian Jazz crop. I can only say, Wow. They groove like there's no tomorrow. The production is incredible as well; a very warm and open natural acoustic sound.
This recording embodies everything that's great about Joyce's output on the Far Out Recordings label. In fact, my only reservation is that, if I hype this CD too much, it might make it seem like Joyce's other stuff on Far Out is not equal. And that would be a crime, because everything she's done for this label has been top notch. This label is a gift to music, and I hope they stay around for many years and expand their artist base.
