Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

This first-ever series of in-depth dialogues with Samdhong Rinpoche, the current Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, presents his refreshing views on a wide range of pressing topics including the problems of the present political world order, the philosophy of "non-violence" (Ahimsa) and "truth-insistence" (Satyagraha), and the plight of Tibet in the face of the communist Chinese invasion. Informed throughout by his deep belief in the principles of Tibetan Buddhism, Samdhong Rinpoche holds to an uncompromising vision of the Truth--the way the world could be if it renounced its destructive path of unprincipled pragmatism and worldly compromise.

About the Author

Donovan Roebert is the founder and coordinator of the South African Friends of Tibet. Born in East London, South Africa, he is a painter whose works are sold internationally. A devoted practitioner of Mahayana Buddhism for over a decade, he has also written several religious and philosophical articles on reconciling new physics and the neurosciences with the subjective human religious experience. His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, is both the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan people. 5.0 out of 5 stars Vajrayâna Buddhism in the Postmodern World, February 22, 2011
By
SBS (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samdhong Rinpoche Uncompromising Truth for a Compromised World: Tibetan Buddhism and Today's World (Paperback)
These dialogues with Samdhong Rinpoche will provide substantial support to spiritual seekers as they challenge the very assumptions that are crucial to the current era. In fact he makes it clear that the crisis of the post-modern world is no longer isolated in the West alone; it has become a global issue of paramount concern to all peoples. Samdhong Rinpoche's message is one of a primordial tradition that has only become available to those outside the Tibetan community relatively recently and is, it goes without saying, a tremendous blessing to the world. Yet it should be remembered that the disarray of this traditional civilization also came at a tremendous price for the Tibetan people and the world at large to pay in order to make this enlightened wisdom accessible. Perhaps this is the price that all individuals living in the present epoch ought to pay--to live in a troubled and broken world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A world vision acknowledging modern social pressures., October 14, 2006
This review is from: Samdhong Rinpoche Uncompromising Truth for a Compromised World: Tibetan Buddhism and Today's World (Paperback)
Donovan Roebert edits SAMDHONG RINPOCHE: UNCOMPROMISING TRUTH FOR A COMPROMISED WORLD, a treatise linking Tibetan Buddhist principles with concerns of the modern world. Rinpoche is the first elected prime minister of the Tibetan government in exile and has long contributed scholarly and spiritual thoughts to the world: he's professor whose convictions are solidly based on Buddhism - and his blend of reflection, experience, and self-insight pair well with a world vision acknowledging modern social pressures.
