Kurupt - Same Day, Different Sh*T,
This review is from: Same Day Different Shit (Audio CD)
Kurupt's (AKA Young Gotti, Ricardo Brown) fifth solo album is "Same Day, Different Sh*T" (2006). On the "Young Gotti Intro" Kurupt recalls all his past work then starts the album off with a car jacking. Kurupt provides a raw grimy standout with "Scrape Thru Tha Hood". Feeling this track, Kurupt's on point with his rhymes and the beat fits his style. "Make That A** Shake" follows, Young Gotti rhymes about himself while asking the ladies to shake their booty's. Kurupt then lays down his game plan on "I Get High 2" another solid cut. Kurupt's partner in rhyme Daz Dillinger drops in for two bangers with "As Time Fly By" and "Gangstaz, Pt. 2". Kurupt reps the West and keeps the grimy rhymes going on "Ryde & Roll" then slows things down for the ladies on the smooth "What Can I do" feat. singer Ashton Jones. The "Shoot'Em Skit" gets the listener hyped up for "Accessories" (Nina Breeda) a cut where Kurupt rhymes about guns, revenge and banging on bustas. Kurupt keeps the thugged out rhymes going on "I Did It" then tag teams "Aint That Something" with Daz Dillinger. At eleven full-length tracks' this is a short release but a solid one. "Same Day, Different Sh*t" has a distinct West Coast sound and feel to it, and Kurupt shows he can hold things down without numerous guest appearances. Recommend checking this one out. 3.5.

Indeed, the most sharpest lyricst of the DPG has come full circle. Kurupt never misses a beat as the cd flows, considering its his shortest cd, but listening to it it doesn't seem so short. The production is complmenting, but I found myself scratching my head as how can it be a Kurupt DPG album without production from either Fredwrec or (gasp!) Daz? Ok, we have the "DPG" albums for that, but the distinct difference from the "streetz" & "space Boogie" albums comparing with this set speaks volumes. In the latter tracks, the production seems to die down a bit, but kurupt verbally lifts it back with the lyrics. He never had to do that with Fredwrec or Daz producing and if you don't belive me, listen to "against the grain" as other than "throwback music", the album is pretty much lackluster production wise and you hear kurupt's flow overtaking the beats, (and that album itself is another discussion). That being said is the only reason it ranks as a strong 3 star cd rather that 4 star. Don't let this review hesitate you to purchasing this cd because overall Kurupt can still spit it till the chambers need to be changed & it still bangs in my garage and car!! Young Gotti still has it, but like snoop dogg he needs the high caliber production to re-elevate him back to superstar status. Regardless, he's still the best in my eyes.

6th solo for Kurupt may be his worst,

This review is from: Same Day Different Shit (Audio CD)
After taking a few years off, Kurupt has been on fire puttin out releases over the last year. Just 10 months since his last solo and on the same day as the DPG album, Kurupt is bacc with his 6th solo (counting the Kurupt "Against the Grain" album Daz put out in 2003), and this is his worst solo album (tied with the '03 "Against the Grain") just barely gettin 4 stars. The 5th album he's been a part of over the past year, you can see he is slackin a little lyrically (but it still is 4 star worthy). With 11 songs, only 2 are real good, 3 are ok, the oter 6 are decent but nothing special. Guests aren't heavy, rappin on 2 songs and doin the hook on 2 others. Production is average (suprisingly since Daz did all but 1 song, which DJ Xtra large did). Far from his best work but a good one for fans to have.

If you've followed Kurupts career the way i have then u'll know he's gotten wack, but this album shows that hes back. His lyrics are Dogg Food caliber. He doesnt use repetitive rhyme scemes, he does go "skeet skeet" the whole time in the back round. he doesn't call himself kurupt young gotti sinatra stylone hussien..etc...this is str8 heat kurupt is back stop sleeping and pick this up

Kurupt promised tha old Kurupt on this album but failed to deliver. Excessive cursing dominates tha album but Daz comes very nice with tha beats. I Git High and Nina are tha stand out tracks.

I'm going to be to the point this album is a piece of sh**. If anyone likes this album you need to be listening to country music. First off this is not the lyrical Kurupt that I remember his flow is extermly week and he is saying out dated rhymes all he says during the entire album is pu**y this pu**y that. I remember back in the day his rhymes were so tight you would be like rewind that again. The only song on this entire album worth listening to is nina breeda. So basically listening to this album is a waste of energy.

Nice to see Kurupt Young Gotti and Daz hook back up to make some good music. Kurupt comes good on the album, not like he was in the early 90's or on the Streets is a Mutha album, but he still sounds good. Another great album from the West to play during those hot summer months. West Up!

WITH THE 5TH SOLO ALBUM FROM KURUPT HE RELEASE AN ALBUM FULL OF GANGSTA, AND WESTCOAST MUSIC THAT ONLY THE DPG KNOWS HOW TO DO. BUT AFTER LISTENING YOU WONDER WHAT DOES KURUPT ACTUALLY HAVE TO OFFER HIS SUBJECT MATTER IS VERY BORING, AND PLAYED OUT FOR A 33 YEAR OLD MAN TO BE TALKING ABOUT. ITS OBVIOUS HIS LYRICS ARE GONE, I DONT KNOW IF ITS TOO MUCH SMOKING WEED, BUT THAT CAT FELL OFF. HE TENDS TO REPEAT WORDS, AND TRY TO USE SOME BIG WORDS, WHICH SEEMS NOT TO COME EASY FOR HIM, AS HE STRUGGLES TO SAY ANYTHING THATS SO AMAZING. THE BEATS ARE GOOD, BUT THEY ARE BORING, AND PLAYED OUT, AND SOUNDS ALITTLE TOO WATERDOWN. THIS ALBUM WOULD BE HEARD TODAY, AND FORGOT BEFORE YOU SLEEP TONIGHT. KURUPT AND DAZ NEED TO STEP IT UP, GROW UP, AND GET SOME SUBJECT MATTER, AND PUT MORE WORK IN THERE MATERIAL.

Same Day, Predicable Album.,

Kurupt has made some good albums in the past, but this one is real dissappointment from him, I Expected more from this guy, but the writing is not impressive and the lyrical content is out of reach, although there are some good songs, west coast fans will love him and that's fine, but I Thought it was too predicable and too over the top.
Thumbs Down. |
