Kacey Musgraves tells it like it is.

After listening to Same Trailer Different Park, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter’s first album for Mercury Records, it’s clear that this is a girl who has something to say. A true language artist, Kacey nimbly spins webs of words to create the quirky puns, shrewd metaphors, and steely ironies that fill the record.

Editorial Reviews

After listening to Same Trailer Different Park, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter s first album for Mercury Records, it s clear that this is a girl who has something to say. A true language artist, Kacey nimbly spins webs of words to create the quirky puns, shrewd metaphors, and steely ironies that fill the record.

The lead single Merry Go Round garnered quick airplay and critical acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone (the magazine later placed the song in its vaunted list of the top 50 singles of the year); NPR, which named her their 2012 Best New Artist (all genre); and Slate, where the headline above a rave review of Kacey s work read Is This the Future of Country Music? Billboard took a different track, looking to the past to qualify its praise: Had Loretta Lynn or Dolly Parton arrived on the scene in 2012 instead of the 1960s, some of their compositions could very well have ended up sounding like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Major Label debut. March 19, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
I have been a Kacey Musgraves fan for a while now (since 2007, in fact). This was when she self-released her self-titled traditional country album. And ever since then I've growing to love her music more and more.
What makes Kacey stand out in, not only country music, but the majority of contemporary music as well, is her well crafted, witty songwriting skills. She is an amazing songwriter.

The 12 tracks featured on 'Same Trailer Different Park' are wonderfully unique. These songs are clever and highlight Kacey's character as a care free, hipster, non-conformist. Her voice is angelic and she doesn't need watered down rock 'n' roll in her songs like what the majority of country radio is filled with today. Her songs are very relatable and there is definitely a song on the album to please everyone no matter what their musical taste is.
Releasing 'Merry Go 'Round' as her debut single was a very wise decision, it has become a hit and those who liked that will certainly enjoy the album. 'Merry Go 'Round' is definitely the core of the record and is supported by 11 other awesome songs.

The record starts off with a realistic sense of optimism in the song 'Silver Lining' and the record ends in on an original 'love' song 'It Is What It Is'.
My personal favorites on the album are; 'My House', 'Merry Go 'Round', 'Keep It To Yourself' 'Step Off', 'Follow Your Arrow' and 'It is What It Is'. Hell, I love all the songs. 'Same Trailer, Different Park' is pure music from start to finish.
The album is filled with fantastic co-writers; Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Brandy Clark and Luke Laird and supported by an awesome indie-like production which adds to the authenticity of the record.

When I heard Kacey's single "Merry Go Round" on the radio, I found it to be a standout, for it's wise, all too true lyrics and mellow vibe. Then I heard that she co-wrote (with Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark) "Mama's Broken Heart", which Miranda Lambert covered, which is a song I also adore. So I bought Kacey's album on the day it came out. After several much anticipated spins of the album, a few words come to mind: Beautiful. Inspired. Melodic. Intelligent.

Kacey's voice is very pure and dynamic. Her songs are also clever, straight to the point, and catchy - a perfect blend of commercial and "indie". The album held my attention from "Silver Linings" to "It is What it Is", and each tune is distinctive, with surprising twists and turns throughout. In fact, there are plenty of songs equally as strong as "Merry Go Round", if not stronger - several that may prove to be crossover singles for her.

And the production is top shelf. Nuanced, developed, and realized. The band itself is melodic and sensitive. That this album came out of Nashville, without the machine getting in the way, is a testament to the strength of the material and talent showcased here - as well as a nod to the powers that be.

To me, this album sounds fresh - like spring. And like new love. Maybe that's a bit gushy, but whatever, this album put me in that mood! I think if you like her single "Merry Go Round", with it's delicate pop-Americana vibe, you'll probably have this album in constant rotation. I know I will.

And did I mention she's beautiful? GAW!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a 'country fan', but apparently just became one. March 30, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I was looking for something musical and 'not the same old thing' for my girlfriend, who happens to really enjoy country music.
The blurb on Amazon for this album caught my eye (as per the marketing plan) and I decided to listen to the samples.
What a voice and talent! My girlfriend loves it and the first listens (for me) were a revelation. It's so good in fact that I'm trying to avoid burning myself out on it because I want to love it 5 years from now as well. I'm a jazz/rock/classical/alt-country fan that apparently can't settle on just one genre and I'm more than happy to add this fine collection to the mix. Smug objectivity is out the door with this one; I love it and recommend it to anyone who enjoys good music regardless of genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same Trailer Different Park March 25, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This gal has a way with lyrics and she is a great singer too. Her songs had me alternately laughing and crying. Give this one a try and you won't be disappointed! Update---I bought 3 more copies of this CD for my friends and they love Same Trailer Different Park. We are all in our late 50's and early 60's and one friend commented that Kacey Musgraves' writing shows wisdom way beyond her years. I heard a bit of one of the songs on this album on a recent Nashville episode so I hope she will hit it big. This CD stays in the CD player in my truck.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate Nashville, love Kacey April 7, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The only thing I'll buy out of Nashville is Alison Krauss and Miranda Lambert, because they defy the uptight Nashville suits. So does Kacey. She captures real life as it is for much of America, and its not all pretty. I'd say most of us have had a lot of the same experiences and feelings, admit it or not. There are no dogs on this album, maybe a couple are more shallow than the rest (uh, second tract), but most are eons above the third grade standards of today's Nashville. I'm a total lyrics lover, my wife is into the sound, and this is one of the few albums that her first comment was "the writing blew me away." That puts Kacey in the class of Miranda Lambert and Alanis Morriset. Good company.
