Book Description

Sami Walker wasn’t born in the tunnels. She's traveled all over, even as far as the Northern caves beyond Eastport. Only nobodies went farther than that. Story was, there were towns beyond the Dustbowl, but most folk thought that was just stories.

It’s been almost a century since the sky fell and the world broke apart in a day, and still the people spent their whole lives underground, either in the Five Tunnels, or in the caves, shielded by living stone.

Sami’s mom and dad are long since dead, and her friends, Sef and Glyn, vanished without a trace, over a year ago, or were chased from the tunnel by the Judge. Now her dearest pal, Simma, was leaving, too, to live under the water in tunnel Tee Two, with her mom and her mom’s new boyfriend.

She used to feel safe in the tunnels. Used to feel at home. But now, she wasn’t so sure. There was something in the air. Her only friend left was her dog Scout, a tunnel stray who adopted her over a year ago. And old Miz Murphy, of course, who lived in the hovel below her, deep down in Far Northend, the oldest dig in Tee Four.

For decades, crowds of people have waved through the tunnels, following the green arrows, pushing up and out Eastport, heading North. They heard the air was better there, and most didn’t like the tunnels one bit anyway.

But now, nobodies and someones alike were disappearing, and voices came to her in the dark, warning her of a great danger to come.

In an adventure of courage and hope, Sami seeks answers and uncovers a mystery that spans worlds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh Adventure March 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
After reading Young Moon, I expected only the best from the second book in the series. I was not disappointed in the least! Sami is a smart, engaging adventure in a post-apocalyptic near-future. Sami's tenacity, bravery, intelligence and creativity make for a wonderful female heroine in a compelling world. Sami's ability to balance the darkness in the world with her own light may well move all of humanity toward a new beginning. I couldn't put this down, a must read for all young women, young men, and adults alike! I am eagerly awaiting the rest of the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars SAMi per my Amazon Kindle. August 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book following H.S. St. Ours' Young Moon, was entrancing. It and Young Moon shows the deep research that Ms. St. Hours accomplished on the methodology of creating habitable worlds from Mars and Venus. They also explored elements of the Hindu religion by invoking the spirit Of Kali, the Goddess of Death and Destruction and redeemer of the Universe! (In this case, ultimately saving mankind). I can hardly wait for the sequel!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sami July 16, 2012

We, as a planet are using up all of our renewable resources on a daily basis. The book Sami has brought us into the life of one young girl that has learned how to survive under ground. As a young child she always heard voices talking to her in her head. She knew that she wasn't going crazy, just being guided. With the knowledge of how her parents really died and what the Judge had done, she makes a bold escape above ground. I really did enjoy this book. I think that there should be a sequil so we can find out if Simma actually got a chance to get out. I would recommend this book, it is a fast read and enjoyable one.

I read this book too fast, alas there is not a sequel. What happened to all the Characters that interest me? Sami,Sef Glyn, Ms Murphy and Geoffrey, oh yes and Scout too. Like "Wool" this book develops characters that you'll want to hear more about. Buy it, read it, enjoy. Thanks H.S.

This book is worth reading. It is probably aimed at a young adult audience, but not to juvenile for an adult to enjoy.
