5.0 out of 5 stars Sweetjazzrag!, May 10, 2000
Her voice is sweet...her sound is jazzy w/a ragga muffin flair...the CD swept me off my feet...she is a combination of Billie Holliday and Erykah Babu all rolled up w/a dash of Bob Marley....But in French! wow! I don't understand it but I luv it...the music has such a surreal flavor that I feel like I've been transported to another world.. positive real life denial music...I highly reccomend this CD...

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical., November 11, 2002
This review is from: Samia Farah (Audio CD)
I first heard Samia Farah in Claude Challe's Sun disc, the song Cool [barbare] is one of the most addictive song i have ever heard in my whole life. :) The lyrics are in french but doesn't matter if you dont know the music says it all. Smooth, Down tempo + the magical voice of samia.
P.S if you know about Samia Farah already and looking for review just buy the CD as its not in stock in major stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars Samia : the voice, June 15, 2003

An uncredible french voice (between Billie Holiday and Edie Brickel) with a taste of jazz and reggae. A wonderful surprise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swept Away, November 14, 2000

With a sultry voice used as an effective instrument, Samia's French lyrics wash over the listener in soothing waves. This CD is a must for all jazz/world music fans, especially those who melt in front of Cassandra Wilson-like romantic female vocals. The tracks build in layers throughout the CD, rendering listening a pure delight.

You'll find yourself wishing you could jet off to Paris NOW. With a date. To a smoky jazz club in St Germain de Pres.

close your eyes and you are there, one of the french islands in the west indies, forget paris, the reggae dub inspired grooves on the majority of tracks and smooth easy rhythms make ya want to catch an island sunset with a cool drink in oine hand and your woman in the other. seems like the odd # tracks are my faves 1,3,5,7 they are more of the dub reggae style. vocalist reminds me of a cross between josephine baker and the singer from paris combo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing, November 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Samia Farah (Audio CD)
I was hesitaing to buy it because I had never heard of Samia before, however this album was a pleasant surprise. Farah's voice reminds me of Edie Brickel, "in French." The music is smooth and mellow, yet has some B. B. King presence in it.

Where is her next album? This cd is one of my all time favorites. Just pure chilled bliss all the way through. Her ep, Homesick Blues and her tune with Adrian Sherwood, J'ai Change' are also excellent, as well as a recent collaboration with Tosca on Heidi Bruehl... but I want more!

more please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing, February 14, 2011

Samia Farah is not exactly the most recognized singer in the USA, but she is most certainly worth a listen. This CD consists of a lot of different styles which she really does well. Her voice is really mesmerizing. A word of warning, her songs are mostly sung in French, so if that is an issue, then you may want to pass on this CD. If not, this is a really cool CD with a lot of really cool songs.
I would have to say that Les Hommes is my favorite on this CD. She has quite a mix of styles like Jazz, Reggaie, and lounge or 'chill' . I had quite a time finding this CD. Amazon USA has it off and on. If you can't find her stuff here, try Amazon in the U.K.
