Product Description

The Uke has a nato top, back and sides... with a very light satin finish to it. It has geared tuners and an ''ebonized'' fingerboard. It also plays as good as it looks, suprising tone and playability for such a reasonable price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice ukulele, but not a tenor, April 20, 2007

This review is from: Samick UK-50 Tenor Concert-size Ukulele
This ukulele is nicely built and finished. It is easier for me to play than our little soprano ukuleles. But it seems to pretty much fit into the "concert" size, according to everything I've read. It is just a little over 23 inches in length, 8 inches wide and 2 5/8 inches deep. It has a 15 inch scale length, like the typical concert ukulele, and 16 frets. Higher-priced instruments described on Amazon and elsewhere as tenor ukuleles have lengths of 26 or 27 inches, with up to 19 frets. Unlike some of the cheaper ukuleles, this one does not come with a gig bag, and I intend to look for a bag or case to fit a concert rather than a tenor ukulele.

The intonation on this ukulele is good all the way up the fretboard, which is a big plus. The sound quality is nice. It sounds more like a guitar than the little soprano ukes do. The appearance is not traditional. The head has an unusual shape and a very thick, shiny urethane coat in front which contrasts with the very un-shiny satin body featuring a distinctive wood grain. It is an interesting look.

5.0 out of 5 stars I own two., February 22, 2007

The UK 50 is the size of a concert ukulele. I like them so much I own two. Has a great neck for playability and sound nice. It also projects it sound well. I love the look of its headstock and it has sealed geared tuners - many ukuleles come with friction pegs which I don't like. It stays in tune well - and I've own ones that don't. An amazingly good first ukulele. And at a very nice price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Tenor, But a good Concert., August 6, 2008

This is not a Tenor uke as stated it is a concert size which between soprano and tenor. It is a very good uke for the price and great for beginners, with a string change of course. But if you're looking for a tenor look elsewhere.
