One of 1978's best but underrated Salsa albums.,

This review is from: Sammy Gonzalez Y Los Torbellinos Con (Audio CD)
Sammy Gonzalez was a great sonero (improvising Salsa singer) who is best known for his work with the bands of Roberto Roena and Tommy Olivencia during the 1970s. This was his only solo album and it included such superb "Salsa Dura" dance tracks as "Yo Se Lo Que Es Vivir", "Regresaras", "Te Voy A Ensenar", "Te Vencio La Vanidad" and "Todo Termino". Gonzalez' phrasing vocal delivery and timbre bear a striking (but NOT overbearing) resemblance to Hector Lavoe's. If you are a fan of classic 1970s Salsa, do yourself a favor and buy this great CD while you still can.

El Rolo's solo adventure,

This album is Sammy's first adventure away from his teachers, released under the label International as was much of Roena's work. "Te Vencio La Vanidad" is a pretty good song and shows off a confident side in Sammy. The music is sort of similar to his music with Roena. The track "Te Voy a Enseñar" is an aggressive song lyrically and well arranged musically. Other than this though, I don't really see it as just above average.
