One perfect example is the song "Snowflake" on this CD.

Most of the CD contains instrumental tracks, and some, including the ones listed above, are sung by either Joe Sample or guest artists.

Joe Sample reaches back as far as Rainbow Seeker in this album "Sample This". The new tracks stand up to the flavor we have come to associate with Joe Sample. He is by far one of the greatest Jazz Pianists of all times.

The very first time I remember hearing Joe Sample was on the Danniebelle Hall's album from 1975--"This Moment." The song was "What Kind Of Love Is This."
Joe did the intro along with Ernie Watts on the saxaphone. The intro was rapturous and alive!
Joe's style is so versatile...one moment he calms you with a soft and sensuous tone, another moment he's got you grooving! One perfect example is the song "Snowflake" on this CD.
I love rainbows and "Rainbow Seeker" makes me feel as if I am cruising on a beautiful spring day seeking that pot at the end of the rainbow! I never tire of this selection--I replay it at least 2 or 3 times when I listen to this CD.
Joe will always be one of the best in my book for jazz piano. Thank you Joe for taking me to numerous "adventures" by way of piano!

I used to decry this album as simply an album that Sample made to fulfill some quota with Warner Bros. Yet, I now constantly look back at this album and realize that although there is very little new material on it, the album is still good. These are classics that he has done before, whether they be ten or twenty years before this album's release, but he still did them the same justice with the conventions of the mid 1990s. He has rethought his prior works, and has done so well. And thusly, I have rethought this album and whether or not real art has taken place. It has.

A Joe Sample feast. He does several acoustic piano covers of previous songs done with the Crusaders and on solo releases. If you only buy one CD by Joe Sample, buy this one.

I first heard of Joe Sample when I listened to Soul Shadows, and I instantly loved it! There's lots of piano, my favorite instrument, and I'm a growing fan of jazz music. The tracks on this CD are light, classy and enjoyable. I'm Coming Back Again, Soul Shadows and Street Life are my favorites. Most of the CD contains instrumental tracks, and some, including the ones listed above, are sung by either Joe Sample or guest artists. Get this CD!!! It's great.

There is an undenied energy I feel each time I listen to a Joe Sample project. That energy can contain one or several emotions of which I feel Joe expresses his music.
The energy is no different on "Sample This." Joe's style is unmatched and a delight to listen to. "Rainbow Seeker," "Snowflake," and "Fly With The Wings Of Love" are my favorites.

Joe Sample is superb with his jazz orchestrations in "Sample This." His piano style is naturally "all jazz." As an example his rendition of the tune "Snowflake" is such a fine composition it fills your senses with the feeling of actual snowflakes falling down. Combining a classical brazzillian afro-funk his jazz ensemble is tremendous. What I like about the music is all the instruments are totally defined ,and combine beautiful pictures of fast moving "City Life" to more serene pieces such as His other "Melodies." In summary I would rate this album a definite 5-stars and would be very compatible to backround music compositions.

I could spend a good deal of time focusing in on the double meanings behind this album title. Of course Joe Sample,on his own and with the Crusaders was being sampled right and left by this time by one jazz/funk obsessed DJ after another at this time when there was a huge sense of 70's funk revivalism occurring in the hip-hop/electronic/scratch scene. Kind of good news for Joe Sample, whose career was still going incredibly strong at this time with successful releases with the Soul Committee on Did You Feel That?and reunions with the Crusaders. Ever the jazz improviser however funky and soulful he was,Sample bought in George Duke to help with production as well as his classic team of session aces from Steve Gadd,Lenny Castro,Dean Parks and the multi talented Marcus Miller to re-imagine his own material.

Much of what's here I have to admit to not hearing in it's original form. But for those I haven't I'll comment on what the sound says on it's own terms. "Rainbow Seeker II" begins the album in that soulful, piano oriented vein that he maintains throughout "Caramel","In All My Wildest Dreams","Snowflake","It Happens Everyday","Fly With The Wings Of Love" and "Melodies Of Love". These are classic Joe Sample jazz grooves, modernized enough to keep them fresh but punchy enough to keep them out of smooth jazz cliche's:something of a Sample trade mark. Dianne Reeves throws her pipes well into the samba flavored "I'm Coming Back Again" where Dennis Rowland takes over for Bill Withers on "Soul Shadows".

As the album gets more into the uptempo music "Night Flight" and "Chain Reaction" slide into the grooves very smoothly and easily.
