This was my son's first book that he read himself. When the kitty takes the ball from Sam, the reader exclaims, "Bad Kitty!" In the world of a beginning reader, this is hilarious. He laughed out loud and of course, the laughter was contagious. That is exactly what reading should be, FUN! We purchased this book that we originally checked out at the library. It will always hold great memories of the beginning of our son's adventure into reading.

The illustrations are great. The story is silly and simple, but my baby LOVES it. It will also make a good early reader book.

I think of this book series as a must have for the 1-2 year olds in my life. There is just something about the simple text and expressive pictures that they can relate to. In each book Sam has some kind of trouble that is made better in the end. Toddlers find them facinating and comforting. And yes, they will ask you to read them over and over (the ultimate sign of a good book).

The Sam books are my son's favorites. There are just the right amount of words on a page for a 2 year old's attention span. He really loves to repeat each page after I read it. I would recommend Sam's Ball to anyone with a small child.
