This is really Teach Yourself Visual Studio and little C#,

This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself C# in 24 Hours (Paperback)
The book is excellent for beginners who have never seen an IDE before. The author uses the term C# where he should use the term "Visual Studio .NET" instead. C# is a programming language. For instance, the second chapter is titled "Navigating C#" but he really talks about navigating the IDE. I suspect a search-replace of C# to VB.NET you could convert it into a VB.NET book.(of course with a bit more than that). I was looking for a book to quickly learn the LANGUAGE C#, not a study of Visual Studio .NET, which takes all of about 1 hour or less for an experienced software developer to learn. If the title were changed to "Teach Yourself Visual Studio.NET in 24 hours", I'd give it 5 stars. Bottom line, if you are a C++ or Java software engineer who wants to come up to speed on C#, this is not the book for you.

A great introduction to C#.,

I came to C# in 24 hours with a background in programming and management of the software development process. The book is easy to read, is well organized with helpful exercises for each hour (chapter). It contains essential information about the language that is missing from the core reference works. I will keep it on my bookshelf for ready reference.I asked James Foxall a few questions via email and he answered them promptly and with excellent care.

Good for Beginners,

This is a very good book if you have no previous C# experience. I decided to read this book after reading Sams Teach Yourself C# in 21 Days and I found that all the programming concepts were review. I did like this book's focus on the Visual Studio .NET IDE and Windows forms, though. It shows you some basics on using list views, tree views, etc. which Teach Yourself C# in 21 Days completely skips. If you're looking for some simple Windows form concepts or if you're looking to learn C# with no programming experience, this is a good book, but people with C# experience and some Windows forms experience can definitely skip it.

Good Start to Learning C#,

The book was helpful in starting me on the path to writing in C#. It was easy to understand unlike other books on programming I have read and had examples and projects that were doable by me not just those who wrote it. It did take me longer than 24 hours to finish but was worth it.

I wanted to see what the hoopola was all about with this new language. This book got me up and running with C# in relatively a short time. Good rundown on the main points of the new language and VS IDE. There is some rundown on .NET framework which was helpful. It's a beginners book, so don't expect any hardcore programming. It's easy to read and follow.. nothing complex. It's one of the few begineers books out there on C# I actually liked without getting lost..

I'm a visual basic developer who is considering moving to C#. I needed a book that discussed the basics of programming in C# and doesn't assume you already know C++. I found the book extremely helpful - particularly the info on ADO.NET. If you're looking to program in C#, or just trying to figure out what it is about, I highly recommend this book.

Great book. I have been working with VB for a couple of years and wanted to get a quick insight into C#. This book was great, it not only gave me the insight and knowledge I was looking for with C#, but gave me a tutorial on the VS IDE with quick tricks I can start using in C# or VB. The only reason that I didn't give this book 5 starts is because it uses the old naming conventions. Other than that the code samples and examples used through the book was real life. Recommend for newbies and current programmers that want a quick read on C#.

I've read some of the reviews and I'm confused: why would you get a "learn blah blah blah in 24 hours" book and think you were going to learn C#? With '.Net' plainly written in the title, I knew exactly what I was going to get; a tutorial on learning Visual Studios .Net with C#. The book served it's purpose for me, now it's time to learn some in-depth C#. Definitely an excellent book for those who are familiar with OOP and want to learn what Visual Studios .Net has to offer.
