    From Library Journal

These four guides approach Microsoft's newest operating system (which may or may not be generating requests at your library) from different perspectives. TechTV focuses only on Windows XP Home Edition yet assumes some familiarity with previous Windows versions and is more appropriate for upgraders or those buying an additional PC than for first-time Windows users. A valuable addition to XP collections, it will supplement more basic guides. On the other hand, Teach Yourself, Norton's, and Unleashed clearly target intermediate to advanced users and include information on both XP Home and Professional editions. A self-study resource for patrons who quickly need to get up to speed with XP, Teach Yourself is a solid series addition, with helpful summaries, Q&As, quizzes, and exercises. Norton's is a characteristically thorough reference packed with tips for power users and resources for further information. Unleashed mostly covers Windows XP Professional and features useful appendixes on related topics such as TCP/IP, but it is less clear and less detailed than Norton's. All three will suit larger public libraries with a business and technical population. [For more reviews of XP titles, see Computer Media, LJ 11/1/01. Ed.]

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Informative and User -Friendly, January 22, 2002
    By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Microsoft Windows XP in 21 Days (Paperback)
I learned more about a Windows operating system in a week with this book than I learned since I first used Windows 3.1 up thru last week. I'm a home user now, but this book will teach and inform users from home PC novices to office professionals. It covers both the Home and Professional Editions, and if you don't need the latter, it's easily skipped. Full of helpful tips and warnings when you might get into dangerous waters. Wish I'd have had a manual like this when I was an office administrator. One of the best computer manuals I've used!

5.0 out of 5 stars good Windows XP info book, January 11, 2002

This is a great example of a book that can be used quickly and efficiently. The author is obviously very experienced with every aspect of windows, and covers each element, then offers experience advice on how to better utilize the feature. highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for novices!, December 5, 2005

This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Microsoft Windows XP in 21 Days (Paperback)
I bought this book, like the title says, to teach myself everything I needed to know about Microsoft Windows XP in 21 days. As a novice, I quickly discovered that it would take me quite a bit longer to grasp most of the concepts in this book, because a certain level of understanding, especially vocabulary, is assumed by the author. I simply didn't understand most of it. It is probably a good book for advanced users, but with my limited knowledge of computers, I really could not say. In fact, since it is too advanced for me, I am going to give the book to a computer expert as a gift. The book is 746 pages long and has complete chapters about subjects which I have never heard of. The author himself says that this book is for intermediate and advanced users. I would recommend going to a book store to really check out a computer reference book this this before ordering it online. That might save you some disappointment and money!
