Over the years, Paint Shop Pro has matured and gained features, earning respect from users at all levels. It has reached a complexity that merits Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 6 in 24 Hours, designed for new users who need to master the basics as quickly as possible.

The book is completely goal-oriented. It begins with an index on the inside front cover, and it also has a tear-out sheet that describes the tools found on the palettes and listings for all of the keyboard shortcuts. Each chapter is straightforward, covering specific features while building on lessons from previous chapters.

Paint Shop Pro is widely used for Web graphics, and there is a special section dedicated to this medium containing lessons on using Paint Shop Pro to create seamless tiles (for backgrounds) and navigation buttons. There are also two chapters on Animation Shop 2, the standalone application for building animated GIFs and banners that ships with Paint Shop Pro.

Given its clear-cut style, this book is great for beginners, but it lacks color illustrations (making the chapter on color correction somewhat theoretical) and it doesn't come with a CD-ROM. On the bright side, these measures keep the cost of the book down. --Mike Caputo

A fantastic book that will show you step by step how to get the most out of Paint Shop Pro, even if you have NEVER worked with a graphics program before (such as myself). After working through the book you will be very comfortable with all the different tools and you will have created some spectacular projects. The only negative remark that I have is that this book uses the exact same tutorials that were taught in the book for version 5, they have however been expanded to cover the new features in Paint Shop Pro version 6.

This book gets three stars. It's okay. If you are totally new to Paint Shop Pro, this book is for you. For those that know a good amount or are masters, don't bother.

First of all, it's almost exactly like the Teach Yourself Paint Shop pro 5.0 in 24 hours. The only thing is added is the few new features in 6.0. Even the tutors are the same...same wording, same everything. If you have 5.0 book, don't bother getting this book.

Second, it reads like the manuel. Why pay 20 bucks for a book you already have?

Third, don't believe the 24 hour thing. Usually there is about two or three tutors per one hour session...but trust me, it takes more practice and more tutors with some applications such as layers and masks.

On a good note, it does teach you some techniques and also gives you information on PSP's tools. You also get information on basic web design with a lot of common web design questions answered.
