4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Think You Are Too Busy for Tutorials!
I bought this book almost a year ago. If I had rated it then, I would have said it was worthless. I thought I needed a reference manual, so I could look up specific tasks. I bought the book because I was too busy for the program manual (also a tutorial).

Now I know why good manuals for Paint Shop Pro are tutorials! You have NO IDEA of the power of this program...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book for beginner
Found the book to be very helpful to the beginner. But a major mistake not having the graphics/images in color. Wouldn't have ordered if I had known.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Think You Are Too Busy for Tutorials!, March 18, 2000

This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)

You have NO IDEA of the power of this program , unless you go through these educational steps (that you don't think you need). I learned so many powerful tools and effects, when I wasn't even looking for them.

I've had Paint Shop Pro (and this book) for over a year and had NO IDEA of the many powerful tools available. The tutorials taught me many things that have made web graphics a million times easier.

It was well worth the couple hours of learning ... compared to endless ENDLESS hours of frustration! I wish I had just worked through the tutorials in the first place! It would have saved me so many hours of trial and error.

It took me a year to finally read this book, fully. I wish I had done so a long time ago. I realize now, that it was well worth the investment of a few hours. Buy the book and REALLY work your way through it ... you will learn a lot.

Take the Tutorial! Even if you think you are beyond it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to PSP..., February 28, 2000
By
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)
I found this book very good in unlocking many of the features of, and helping me realize some of PSP's potential. Never having had a course or read a tutorial on a graphical program like this, I wasn't aware of how much was "hidden" in such programs. I really felt after reading this book that I could make much more use of the program. And also found many more ways of using my (ah.. hum) creativity when exploring the program on my own, finding new ways to manipulate the pictures I have made. I can definitely recommend it, especially to people new to learning PSP. Or who has not yet read any books on PSP. The only minus is the black and white pictures illustrating the sections on color adjusting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every beginner/intermediate PSP user should read this book, July 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)
This is an amazing book that has taught me many things I never knew were possible with the software. There is even a chapter where the author shows you how to remove a person's braces from a photograph. As well, I've found the author to be extremely helpful in answering any of my questions, (even some non book-related questions) via e-mail.

Highly recommended...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for beginners. Great price for value received., July 15, 1999

This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)
The 24 lessons are generally very helpful and specific. The very detailed step-by-step tutorials makes it easy to duplicate the author's results each time. However, I did wish for more expository detail in some of the topics. Overall this is a worthwhile book for beginners and the price for value received is excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for beginners to PaintShopPro, March 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)
Pros: it has many examples that clearly shows you how to complete the project. However, this edition has no color at all, thus it is hard to see the result prior to actually testing on your own. It might be good since it prompts you to going through the examples but I think it's not the way to present a book about a graphic product. In general this book is aimed to beginners only because assumes that you know nothing about the product you are using, not even where to find the tools and the menus. But I strongly recommend it to those of you that have just bought PSP and want to start doing something cool, especially for the web. In the special effect section, the author shows examples with third parties plug-ins that aren't quit affordable: he uses the alienskip suite that costs $129.00 on sale !!!! However, he also shows how to use the built-in special effects that come with PSP.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book., August 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)
I found this book to be very helpful. If you are new to Paint Shop Pro, this is the book to start out with. Mr. Clark's assumes no prior knowledge of this paint program so he takes you through each step clearly. I understood every point he was trying to get across and I had no problems. If you take the time to do the excercises the way he instructs then you will be on your way to Paint Shop Pro success.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great starting point for new PSP v5 users, October 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)
I've only recently begun exploring the possibilites of Paint Shop Pro v5, and found that I need a quality reference book to compliment the program. "Sams' Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro in 24 Hours" is just want I needed, as it covers all the major features of the program. This book should appeal to all users who may find them selves slightly confused by all the features of Paint Shop Pro v5. T. Michael Clark does a fine job walking you through all of the many "how to" examples.

If you are a new user to Paint Shop Pro, I would definately encourage you to pick up this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good tutorial for beginners, January 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 5 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours Series) (Paperback)
If you're new to PSP this is a good book that will familiarize you with what PSP 5 can do. Some info is basic. Chapters are divided into 1-hour lessons although I finished most in less than an hour. Nice examples, although some laborious, show you the cool tricks. Examples are author's tricks so it doesn't teach you how to make your own but the examples provide starting point for you to play around and experiment. Best part is the links to more tutorials. Don't expect a complete guide. It only touches the surface. Nice cheat sheet too.
