5.0 out of 5 stars Looks, sounds, feels good!
I don't have too much experience on this type of microphone to make extensive/professional review. I just started playing with Garageband/pod cast and use Skype and wanted to improve the sound input.
Compare to the other mini microphones I've used, this is HUGE and heavy, solidly built. Connection is easy, just plug in the USB and the Mac recognizes it. To my not so...

1.0 out of 5 stars Microphone does not work.
I would highly recommend to refrain from buying this product, as it does not work with the software that is delivered with the actual microphone. I have spent days and nights browsing forums to get this microphone to work, and have absolutely tried everything, but have had no luck in getting it to work.

I have even purchased an expensive sound card, because...

Compare to the other mini microphones I've used, this is HUGE and heavy, solidly built. Connection is easy, just plug in the USB and the Mac recognizes it. To my not so experienced ears, it sounds better than iSight, built-in mics, and the Sony mic that requires an AA battery and a pre-amp.
Well-made, good sound, easy to use. 5-star for the prize/package/performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Podcasting Mic Mounted to Desk with Gooseneck, November 19, 2009
This review is from: Samson C03U USB Condenser Microphone (Electronics)
I primarily use this mic for podcasts and training screencasts for clients and colleagues in the Web design/development line of work. I've mounted it with a gooseneck and flange mount with shock absorbing pad which easily takes place of more expensive shockmounts available for this mic.

My main review for this mic is located on the other Samson C03U Microphone product page (see link below), but I want to add here that this seller had listings on the other product page, which is the item without the CakeWalk Sonar software.

However, buying the version without the software, from Ace Photo Digital... they threw in the software anyway!

It's a superior product at an incredible value. It's well worth the investment. See my full review here:

I mostly bought this for voice chatting with friends and gaming, the sound quality of this mic is crystal clear from a distance away, so put on your favorite headphone and don't worry about mic adjustment in the middle of a match.
The only thing I didn't like, was the software that came with it, it's buggy and will crash your system, even the latest version of the software is buggy, so stick with the built in windows drivers and it'll work perfect.

I needed a USB microphone for use with my speech recognition software (Dragon Naturally Speaking), when I got my new PC the sound card was incompatible with Dragon, and their tech support told me to either get a new sound card, or use a USB microphone. I tried an inexpensive USB microphone from Logitech, but it resulted in many more errors that I had to go back and correct. Most annoyingly, when I switched the microphone on and off, apparently there was a surge or something that the software would interpret as a word. So, many of my sentences started or ended with an extraneous "and" or "the" or "that," all of which I had to go back and correct. I decided to upgrade the microphone rather than go the new sound card route, and ordered the Samson.

The Samson microphone has been great. Far fewer errors, works better than I hoped. The one thing I miss is that it has no on/off switch (couldn't determine that from the available information), so I have to switch it on and off with the Dragon software, so I don't get one of the main benefits I hoped for, but it works so well otherwise, I'm still happy.

Perhaps this seems like overkill for dictation software, but if you depend on that kind of software professionally, I think it's well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the price I paid, I'm more than happy with this workhorse of a mic., May 31, 2010

This review is from: Samson C03U USB Condenser Microphone (Electronics)
I paid 90.00 for this mic on Amazon, and for that price I give it at least 4 stars. Sure there are better mics, but not for that price. It provides the right options, the right sound, and the right durability for constant use in studio, or on the go.

I'm not worried at all about throwing the mic around in my studio. I've been using it for a couple of months to record and I haven't had any problems with it. (I wanted to wait until I had more experience with it before I gave it a review.)

It picks up a lot of bass, even with the bass cut off turned on. This is great for certain kinds of recording.

If you go to the Samson website you can listen to an example of some vocal audio recorded on this mic.

This is a great mic for someone getting started.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS MIC!!!, September 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samson C03U USB Condenser Microphone (Electronics)
I am loving this mic so much right now. It was a breeze to setup (just remember to take that metal plug out with a penny or something before assembly!) and the quality of the audio is superb! It has so many pattern options so you can use it for a multitude of jobs and position it like you want. I ditched the stand after awhile and I have it mounted on a boom arm just to free up space on the desk. It also allows me to bring it in closer to my mouth if needed, without needing me to relocate my keyboard.

I would not get the clamp on pop filter they offer though. It gets in the way and is only really useful if you are singing straight into it. I purchased a Samson WS03 Windscreen for it and it works just the same and is out of the way for the most part. I dont really notice any quality difference with or without it and it definitely kills the pops when using P words.

Overall, this is an awesome mic for doing video reviews, voiceovers or even singing. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting professional sound recording from their computer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound and reliable, May 16, 2011

Disclaimer: I actually own this model but I did not buy it from Amazon since I didn't become a member until sometime afterward.

I purchased mine from a place called Sam Ash music store in April 2009. This mic has been incredibly reliable and the sound quality is really good. I have been using this mic with my Macbook Pro machine and Garage Band to record audio narrations for product videos I create for my company. My mac recognizes it and no other drivers or software are required. Further, I don't really have to perform any additional processing on my voice because this mic sounds very good on its own.

The mic is made of metal and it feels sturdy to the touch. It has a little weight to it which I kinda like. The quality of the switches and cable connections seem really good.

Overall, I would recommend this mic to just about anyone looking for a cost-effective, yet still good quality microphone. In 2009 I paid about $89 plus an extended warranty they offered which made my total just over $100. Fortunately, I have never needed any type of service or repair on the device and I am thoroughly pleased with this Samson mic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Microphone does not work., April 21, 2010
This review is from: Samson C03U USB Condenser Microphone (Electronics)
I would highly recommend to refrain from buying this product, as it does not work with the software that is delivered with the actual microphone. I have spent days and nights browsing forums to get this microphone to work, and have absolutely tried everything, but have had no luck in getting it to work.

I have even purchased an expensive sound card, because my motherboard with built-in sound card would not have the microphone work, even though I have a $1200 PC, with advanced hardware, purchased about a year and a half ago, when this microphone was already on the market. I have had the microphone for about a year, now, and have tried to get it to become functional, multiple times.

This product has only spawned utter frustration and cost me good amounts of time, to no end. If there are alternatives to this microphone, for your budget and likings, save yourself the possible hassle that this microphone may give you.
