"Samson Gets a Haircut" is the fourth installment in this seven-tape series originally produced for the BBC. This time out Tony Robinson walks through a modern-day shopping center and visits a hotel room in Israel, recounting how the Israelite strongman met up with the Philistine vixen who would lure him into one of the Bible's most famous betrayals. There is no King James language here. "Darling, you're so big and strong, it makes me all fluttery and weak and girlie" is Robinson's tongue-in-cheek version of Delilah's come-on. In "Samuel and the Spooky Godbox," Robinson spends time in a candlelit cave and at a street fair with Ferris wheels spinning in the background as he recounts how the Philistines stole the Ark of the Covenant (a.k.a. the Godbox) only to be beset by rodents and hemorrhoids. As he tells viewers of Samuel's plan to reclaim the ark, Robinson hops aboard a merry-go-round horse and rides off to the battle to be reported about in volume 5.
