April 3, 2003

The story of Samson is the perfect vehicle to reveal the twelve tendencies that can bring down strong men: disregarding their boundaries, struggling with lust, ignoring good advice, overestimating their own cleverness, and others.

Written in a compassionate, funny, and practical style, The Samson Syndrome offers readers powerful ideas for making sure they use their greatest strengths to honor God in every situation.

More About the Author

I started preaching while still in Bible college, and am still at it more than three decades later. In 2003, God gave me the writing career I've always dreamed of, which added a whole new dimension to my life and ministry. Balancing two professions (pastor and author) isn't always easy, but I enjoy the challenge. Thankfully, I'm surrounded by a great supporting cast, including my wonderful wife, Marilyn, a great literary agent (Lee Hough), and a happy church family.

Our daughter, Michelle, made us grandparents for the first time this spring ('06). Little Alyssa Nicole Messina is on her way to a wonderful life. I mean, really. On her 6-week birthday she toured Busch Stadium in St. Louis with her grandpa. Now that's what I call getting off to a good start in life!

People often ask about my sax playing. I'm no Charlie Parker, but I've been sucking on reeds for almost forty years. I am a jazzer at heart, and am blessed to have the opportunity to play in the Poinciana Christian Church worship band every Sunday.

4.0 out of 5 stars A funny Chisel, December 13, 2003

This review is from: The Samson Syndrome: What You Can Learn from the Baddest Boy in the Bible (Paperback)
Wow! what an awkward name for a book. but it really is kinda like that. A summary of this book is the 12 things that can drag a man down in his leadership in the home, in Church, and his relationship with God. (In my eyes.) These 12 points are taken from the character of Samson, and his weak personality traits that led him to his undoing.
Mixed in as well are some rather humorous stories, and some hard hitting ones as well. Not only this, but the pages of this book are backed up by scripture (be wary of the Christian book that doesnt!) I would suggest this book for anyone who is tired of falling in the same sins, that seem stuck, or just want to be better men (or women) I remember reading this for the first time, and then after I was done with a chapter, I had to go, "Wow God, is this me?" It was a true growing experience, and even now when I read it, I get cool new stuff. Good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little attention is being paid to this Book..., August 1, 2003

right now....But I wholeheartedly recommend all Christians pick this one up..men and women alike. It's true Atteberry has a style of writing that grabs the readers attention. In the same style as Lucado, he is able to relate on all levels and all experiences we have in this life and tie it into the experiences the scriptures show happened before. What can also be felt though this book are the Leadership undertones essential in anyone who leads or manages people. I am currently recommending it to Managers in my place of work...Christian and non Christian alike...Pick it up...it's hard to put down! YBIC

I feel this book is very interesting in that it offers insight and direction concerning the thoughts and behavior of men. It offers a God center showing that there is a way to avoid the pitfalls that many of us often blindly fall into. Great reading, insight and challenging.
