I'm a frequent business traveler, I fly at least twice a week, every week. I bought this bag mid-July 2013 and just this past week (11/7/13) the telescoping handle broke, rendering this bag useless. I've taken it on about 32 flights in the 4 months I've had it, and it has NEVER been checked. The majority of the time I carry it on and the remainder it is gate checked (which is a lot less harsh on the bag than checking it in). The bag is roomy and pushes the bounderies of carry ons, which I like. I've never had any issues packing a weeks worth of clothes + shoes, and I didn't need to extend the bag. The bag material has held up well as it still looks brand new, however the telescoping handle is not of the same quality. It is made of cheap/thin/flimsy metal and was never really sturdy. I initially thought that the handle wouldn't last when I first received the bag, but the bag itself is fairly attractive and well built so I looked past it. Now I'm regretting not returning this bag and getting something better from the beginning.

just took this on my first trip. It works great and does stand upright (doesn't tip) even if you put a laptop bag on the handle, so i was happy about that. I was also happy w the amount of space and the pockets on the inside of the flap. the only issue is that it is about 1 inch wider and about 1.5 inches thicker than American Airlines allows for carry on baggage. But you can probably get away w it but if they actually ask you to put it in the sizer thingy, it won't fit. so you are taking a risk if truly being carry on size is a priority for you. the height (longest dimension) by the way is not the issue, it's the width and thickness front to back that exceed. not sure about other airlines. One other thing i like about this bag, as compared to Victorinox is that the handle has two bars so you can rest a bag against it, whereas the Victorinox single bar style bag will not support a laptop bag which will fall right off.

I will start by saying I'm not sure why people are complaining about this bag "not fitting" on planes in the luggage compartment. I have flown 15 times on 5 different airlines with this bag with absolutely no problem or issue at all. What I believe the problem with most people is that they are over packing or stuffing their bag to the point that it is bulging. The bag will not fit if you do that. This is true for any bag. If you stuff it to the point the bag becomes distorted, it probably will cause you problems. This bag is plenty sturdy and is of a nice quality. I treat my luggage roughly and don't go out of my way to take care of it. I have never had a problem with this bag. I have dropped it, scuffed it, and tossed it in the back or the truck with no problems. I accidentally forgot about the bag after I took it out of my wife's trunk of her honda accord. My wife went to back up and the bag was pushed about 20 feet on the drive way by the mud flap and tire of the car. My wife drove forward and I picked the bag up. It had some serious scuffs and scrapes but still functioned perfectly. All my contents were still unharmed and in tact. The bag gets my highest remarks. I would not consider even buying a different brand of bag. Samsonite offers the best price, value, quality, and warranty. I have owned multiple different brands including the high end and low end options. This bag is perfect.

While this bag might fit in the overhead like others have said, it will not pass the test if you are asked. The measurements are, with wheels and handles, 22.5x15x10.5 unpacked. I like the construction, but a listed carry-on should fit 22x14x9.

The bag looks great and it is well built.
Unfortunately it is significantly larger than the dimensions specified in the description, it will not pass any carry on limits check. If it is important for you to use the bag as a carry on look for another one.

I've used this bag for about ten flights so far, and it is the largest size that will fit in the overhead storage. If I over pack a bit, some muscle will be needed to get it in & out, but it will fit. It may look too long putting it in narrow side facing you, but the door will close. I have never had an airline or security employee tell me it's too big.
(Disclosure, all my flights have been on a Southwest 737).

Aside for fitting overhead, so far the quality has held up.

Best carry-on ever. Maximizes all of the carry-on requirements. Got one for my wife and son. Easy to roll and has strong handle.

I reviewed this positively after I used it once. Now I've used it four times since I bought it 2 months ago and the very complicated handle mechanism is broke. Samsonite makes it virtually impossible to get a resolution, and Amazon only helps for the first 30 days. I wouldn't recommend this product because of the specific defect with the handle mechanism. And I wouldn't recommend Samsonite overall because of their total lack of support and customer service.

Just as it was described. Sturdy, roomy, well built. The outside front pocket expanded to allow my travel makeup bag.
