A nice bag with fatal flaw
on December 20, 2014
Just a quick comment... I travel frequently for 1-2 nights. I don't have to dress lavishly so can get by with minimal clothes. So, this bag was intended to cover couple changes of clothes and perhaps my 16" laptop (although I also carry a 17" Swissgear backpack usually for computer). This bag is designed well for my purpose. Good fabric quality, good wheel / handle construction, smart-looking, etc. The main compartment opens fully so that I can lay down my clothes and the smaller compartment handles my 16" laptop very well when needed (or nice place for paperwork, folders, etc). I especially like the combination of the two because the Swissgear pack has an accommodating loop that fits nicely over the Samsonite travel bag handle making a good rolling package and a nice carry-on combination. I can zip through airports with enough room for all I need and avoid checked baggage for most carriers (excepting smaller turbo-prop or smaller commuter jets). That's the good news.
Unfortunately the zipper construction isn't sturdy. The main compartment is fair enough (it's beefy and reliable enough). But I immediately noticed the zipper for the laptop compartment was less sturdy (smaller, thinner) than the larger compartment. Sure enough, after using for two trips, the smaller zipper became difficult to zip and then parted, making the bag unusable. As per their normal good self, Amazon will credit me (only had the bag for 1 month). My dilemma now is where to find replacement.
I'm not sure why they have two different zipper configurations, but it's obvious the smaller zipper could be a be a problem for anyone buying this bag. Good design, poor zipper quality, good Amazon service. Easily 4-5 stars with a better zipper.
