I purchased this manual scale for travel to East Africa on an aid and development mission. Airlines flying in and out of East African countries are very strict about weight limits on luggage- I thought this would be the answer to avoiding overweight bags. The scale worked with the first bag. With the second bag, the triangular connector under the scale bent open. I was able to bend the triangle back into shape with a pair of pliars. I didn't have time to return the scale before leaving the country- so I took it with me hoping it would hold together.
However, when preparing to fly out of Kenya, the triangle bent again and broke into pieces- making the scale totally useless.
Do not purchase this item. The construction is flimsy and the item is poorly designed.
I would have returned the scale, but by the time I returned from Africa, the window for return had closed.
I've ordered lots of items from Amazon- and am a committed fan of Amazon Prime service.
This is a problem with Samsonite, not Amazon.

If you look at the picture, you will see the flimsy metal triangle that connects the main part of the scale to the strap that should secure the suitcase. It broke on the first use. This is not the quality I expected from Samsonite. I bought the item assuming it would be good quality then left it in the package until my next trip which was several months later. By that time, it was too late to return the product.

I do not travel without it. This scale is lightweight, and accurate.
It is such a relief to know the weight before leaving home.
This brings me Peace of mind.

It's easy to use. You don't need to lift and hold the luggage up while someone reads the weight. It comes with an arm that goes to the highest weight point when you lift the luggage and stays there after you place it back. You can read it after that, so you only need to lift the bag of the ground for a second. Very convenient and accurate.

So convenient, and could pay for itself. We always take this with us when we have checked bags. Our bags get heavier on the return flight (souvenirs) and if you go a pound over your checked baggage cost triples. To play it safe, we stay a few pounds below (aka if the plane allows 50 pounds, we aim for 46-47 in case the scale is off).

Save that extra luggage fee and KNOW how much your bag weighs before you get to the airport. We use this every time we travel, it's very accurate!

After about 20 weighing the triangle ring complete came apart. Come to find out that the ring was not welded. Maybe if it was welded it might have survived longer. The scale portion was accurate, too bad the rest of the contraption just wasn't good.

For the last 5 years, I was used to making multiple international journeys. I've had the same suitcase for, well, years, and when it finally went to suitcase heaven, I resolved to buy a duffel bag that had a much smaller initial weight.

I used to use the balance-the-case-on-a-foot-scale method for years, and while it worked pretty well for my standard suitcase, it was nearly impossible with my new one. I had literally NO way to measure how heavy my duffel was, and because I ordered a size too big, it never got too full even with all my junk in it (so much for traveling light).

With my older suitcase, I could figure out how heavy it might be with how full it got. After years of use, I had it almost down to a science. When I ran out of places to stick things, it usually meant it was right at capacity, plus or minus a pound or two.

My flight was in a week, and I didn't want to get stuck with an oversized luggage charge when I would rather spend my budget on fun things, like food or gifts. Anyway, all the luggage scales I found were either: a, cheap and unreliable; b, cheap but no reviews (like at the store); c, expensive and good reviews; and d, good reviews but none available.

I found this one and thought "Hey, ten bucks? Why not?" If it didn't work, I'd return it and bite the bullet and spend top dollar at a luggage store. When I got it, I tried it out on something whose weight I already knew. Perfect.

I packed this this with me (so I wouldn't over-stuff on the way home), and I'm so thankful for it! I was right on the 49lb mark when I weighed it at home, and it was only a few oz off (this scale overshot the weight, which is nice) at the airport.

I still have it, and I definitely recommend it.

Cost was a consideration. I used this on my most recent trip, involving several different international flights, so I was very concerned to stay below the 50 pound limit. I found that the scale varied by up to three or four pounds with repeat trials, one right after the other. I found that I could do just as well climbing on my household scale with the suitcase, but of course couldn't take along my household scale. So, it worked well enough but not as well as I had expected, given the label.
