Makes going through security much easier and has strap to keep it on a rolling bag handle. I recommend it for frequent flyers. If it had a clear liquids bag on the opposite side of the laptop sleave it would be perfect.
Initial quality is great- soft liners and firm padding on the inside, metal zippers and thick fabric on the outside. Haven't worn for extended periods of time but straps and back are well padded. Plenty of pockets, the drink holders on the side have elastic straps that allow for larger bottles. The laptop sleeve is also expandable for wider laptops. Guessing they had gadget lovers in mind which would explain the extra large headphones pocket and separate tablet sleeve.
It thought I would regret spending this much on a bag but so far well worth it. Will see how it holds up.

I purchased this bag after purchasing and returning the Everki Flight, Everki Titan, and Samsonite Xenon 2. This bag is big and can hold two laptops, a tablet, three phones, headphones, plenty of cables, and changing clothes if need be. It's a strong bag and there are two huge pockets with felt interior to protect your valuables from being scratched. In total, the bag has five compartments and the inside of each has a purpose.

Well I bought this bag in March for nursing school in May. It is now August which means that I have used this bag for a little more than 3 months. I liked that it had a separate compartment for my laptop and it was a decent size to haul my books around. I thought the bag would be more durable since I know Samsonite is a well known brand. This was not the case, as after a little more than three weeks the shoulder strap is ripped and now exposes the white padding. I don't even know if there is a warranty, I misplaced the information card. This bag did not last as long as I would have hoped for.

Samsonite has been a brand that I considered to be of high quality. I brought a large travelling 'hard' case from them 5 years ago at a premium cost as I felt it was worth the extra cash but I was really disappointed as on its first real outing, a massive crack appeared on the top of the case, and in many subsequent journeys, the whole thing started to fall apart. I contacted Samsonite via Email several times and I did not get a reply, and I couldn't be bother chasing it up as I have better things to do with my life. Instead I chose to not buy any other product from them (note: I am English so suffering in silence is normal).

Anyway, I don't write many reviews but I felt compelled to write this one as I am really impressed by the quality of this rucksack and its reasonable price. I needed a new case for my 17 ich laptop and looked at many possibilities but could not discount this item even though its a Samsonite.

The racksack is of a good size, my 17.3 inch laptop, MacAir, iPad, iPhone, Parrot Zik headphones in hard case, all supporting cables, power adaptors, car keys and sunglasses fit into it. The felt material inside makes the racksack feel like a very high quality product. I travelled with all my cr@p from the US to Europe and the padding in the shoulder straps were good enough not to leave any marks on my body afterwards (yes it was a bit heavy). The look of the racksack is not bad either, the zips look pretty nice and the red markings make the item look less boring.

The only improvement I can suggest to Samsonite for the racksack is to add some flexible plastic to its bottom for when its put onto the floor so that it does not get dirty, or make it easier to clean.

Anyway, this product restored some of my confidence in the brand although I have not contacted customer services yet...

>> 27 August 2013 Update.

Used the rucksack for over a month now and I have to say this is the best rucksack I've ever owned. I already have a 17" dedicated computer bag for my laptop and I was planning only to use the rucksack for travelling but its so comfortable and versatile that the laptop is never in the dedicated computer bag. With all my gear (and it is a lot of cr@p) in the rucksack, it is still able to stand up on it own on any flat surface. It so good that I will buy another one for backup...(I know this is sad... :O).

>> 18 September 2013 Update.

Brought another and the quality is the same. Just got the Asus RoG G750JW 17.3" laptop and I'm afraid this rucksack is not suitable for this portable PC. The PC just fits but the material is being really stretched so with extended use, I can see either the rucksack material will split or the laptop will received some cosmetic damage. Note, the Asus is 12.5" wide (details can be found under: B00COQIKB4 I would say the rucksack is prefect for a laptop upto 11" wide.

Have had it less then 6 months and its coming apart already. I only use it 2-3 days out of the week and have never put a lap top in it yet. Am trying to have it replaced now by Samsonite will update review if that works out. Update: Its nearly impossible to get a hold of Samsonite. They have not responded to my emails, and no one ever answers the phone.I've given up on getting the backpack repaired or replaced. I simply wont ever by a Samsonite product again.

I'd done a lot of shopping around before deciding on this backpack. Last year I bought my son a Samsonite one - different version than this though. He's so tough on his backpacks and that one has held up fantastically - not even a thread out of place yet. I got this one to replace my Mono Case backpack that just started falling apart after 2 years ($180 backpack).

When this one arrived I knew I'd be happy whit it and after a couple of weeks of use I certainly am. There are lots of zippered compartments (you can see them in the pictures, I won't go into hyper detail here) but the best one is at the very top. Where they show you can put a headset in, I use that for all of my smaller items like my glasses, iphone cables, chargers, and much more. it's very convenient at the top and has very soft linings in there to keep everything protected. Much larger utility pocket than any other backpack I've checked out.

You can easily fit 2 large laptops into this pack, but there's only one adjustable slot for them. This slot is HIGHLY adjustable though, for both width and height, to keep your laptop very snug without any chance of it rattling around in there. Another laptop can go into the same pocket it just won't be as snug.

The straps are cushioned and shaped nicely, very comfortable. The adjustable pull straps are also not very long so you won't have to tie them in a knot or wrap them around anything, they can hang just fine.

This bag is roomy, has great compartments, is very comfortable and seems like it's going to stand up for a very long time.

In a nutshell, very poor quality. Strap torn after 10 minutes of 1st use, one of the zippers next day.

For many years I used to use some cheap Nautica backpack on all of my frequent vacations around the world. I thought that it's time to buy some quality one for my next trip to Thailand. The rest of my equipment is Samsonite and I had no big issue with it, so I intentionally picked the same brand. I liked the functionality and design of Tectonic backpack and I knew it will be sturdy like all Samsonite products.

Boy, I couldnt be further from reality. The quality of this backpack was more lousy then any cheap forfeit bag found in Asia on streets. Zippers were good, fabric was resistant, but it was put together in very very negligent way. I neither over-packed it nor putting inside any heavy stuff (Just stuff like bottle of water, sandwich, sunscreen, blanket, kindle, diaper, toy for kid). Defects all over the bag instantly ruined my family vacation. And of course, after 4 days in the middle of nowhere I had to look for a new cheap backpack which would deliver on expectation better than Samsonite.

Please read entire post. I purchased the backpack to use for business travel. When I received it I thought the bag was well designed--I loved all of the pockets, I was able to use one section for work and one for a change of clothes. However there are multiple problems with how the pack was constructed. I bought it in May 2014 and used it for two trips in June 2014. The bag is literally falling apart at the seams because there wasn't sufficient material sewn into the seam. Because I didn't return it within 30 days, I can't return it to Amazon. Buyer beware--this may be a Samsonsite, but I expected better quality.

I can't even begin to express how incredibly disappointed I am in this product. It looks very sharp and nice, no doubt about it and it is a SAMSONITE, so it's got to be great quality right???? WRONG!!!!

After just two months of usage, the shoulder strap started to come undone and the yellow padding on the inside of the shoulder pad started to show = MAJOR EYESORE, besides being awful quality. those black buckles on the front of the backpack look very nice...but looks can be deceiving, as they started to simply come apart and fall off = MAJOR EYESORE and awful quality.

I want to make it clear that I do not abuse or throw the bag around, I do travel a lot but take great care of my stuff. I had an OGIO backpack that lasted 8+ years and several trips overseas, this samsonite lasted less than 2 months and went on a handful of trips.

The way thing distribute around the backpack makes it inefficient usage of space and the design without real side pockets just makes the whole backpack HUGE and sticking out of your back too far. It does not fit under the site of an airplane and it is very uncomfortable on your shoulders. I really miss the front strap that my OGIO had as well.

Bottom line is that I personally read reviews and look at ratings before making my purchases, so I appreciate it when others take the time to give detailed pros/cons on the products, in this case, my only intention is to keep someone else from going thru the same pain and suffering I went thru and disappointment after buying what I figured was a top notch Samsonite product. I guess they don't make them like they use to anymore.

STAY AWAY!
