Fantastic monitor. Inexpensive and beautiful. Gamer review. 5ms response,

I am using this monitor right now as a backup monitor for my main which died last week. I got this one because of 2 main things; price and repsonse time. If you are into games then you know what a fast response time means. It means less video tearing and faster black to black. My last monitor was 8ms and I thought that it was perfect. Now with this one I am very impressed.
Here are the main specs: <> Response time: 5ms. <> Viewable Screen Size: 21.5 inches <> Viewing Angle: Horizontal 170deg & Vertical 160 deg <> Contrast Ratios are; Dynamic 15000:1 & Native 1000:1 <> Brightness: 300 cd <> Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Pros. >> Price >> Speed >> Controls >> Real HD Cons. << Stand is kind of flimsy << Piano black finish shows Cheetos and fingerprints too easily. Overall 5-star and a great product. Thank you for reading my review.

I was looking for a nice large monitor to attach to my 15 inch macbook pro. The only problem i have encountered is it is a bit difficult to get the base attached to the monitor. The socket in which it goes is very tight and it took a while and a lot of force to get it in there. The directions about this part were very unclear.
Once the monitor was set up i plugged it in to the wall, then my computer through the included dvi cable and powered it on. Picture showed up in full resolution right away with no need to install drivers or make any adjustments. This monitor works great as a second monitor, or even as the only monitor with the macbook closed. The picture is great and this monitor has a 16x 9 aspect ratio instead of the normal 16x10. This makes it great for watching movies or online tv shows. Great product and great value. edit: Some mac users appear to have had problems with getting the brightness and color settings the way they wanted. After using this monitor for almost a year, I agree that in a dark environment some sort of brightness control would be nice. Also, using the color tab under displays in system preferences i was able to calibrate the colors sufficiently to my liking. Overall after a year I have had no problems whatsoever with this monitor, and i would definitely but it again. Compared to an apple display at 3-4x the price, in my opinion it was a no-brainer.

I am very partial towards Samsung monitors in general. They are simply quality products. Sure, there are others that are less expensive, but not with the specs of the 2233SW and not with the brand name of Samsung behind it.
I learned long ago that one of the most important key features with any monitor is the dot pitch - the lower, the better. In general, monitors have pitch ratios at 0.28 and higher - this produces a less crisp image and text. Some of the better LCDs out there are at 0.27 and a couple at 0.26. The 2233SW blows them all away with 0.248 - this is unheard of. When you hook it up for the first time with the optimal settings, you'll have an ear-to-ear smile - the picture is that good...even using the VGA connector. For the price Amazon is offering this monitor, and the current Samsung rebate, you cannot beat it. Others which are not as good cost more - even before the rebate. I purchased two, shipped/arrived quickly, no bad pixels, I've used them with both the VGA and DVI connectors. As with every other Samsung monitor I've owned, this one is no different - extremely impressive.

Didn't Last Long,

It was fine when it worked. A little over a year after purchase, it started flickering at start up. After about 20 minutes of flickering it would finally pop on. I exchanged it with another monitor on another computer in my house to make sure it wasn't a video card issue. It wasn't; the problem followed the monitor and the other computer's monitor worked fine on both computers. After two or three weeks of this, it finally just quit altogether. As I type this, it's sitting in a trash dumpster, having been replaced with a new Dell. After this experience, I don't think I'll be buying anymore Samsung monitors. I give it two stars only because it gave me one year of good service before it gave up. It's not a very expensive monitor, so I guess you get what you pay for. I bet most of the good reviews here just haven't had the monitor long enough for it to fail yet. But I definitely expect more than a year out of a monitor. Is that asking too much?

Great Monitor Just Not For Wall Mount,
By Brian's Reviews (Vernon, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung 2233SW 21.5-Inch Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
This is a great monitor if you want a desktop monitor but I ordered this to wall mount it. The back of the monitor has four screw holes where you can attach it to the wall mount. The first monitor I ordered arrived and the plate that allow you to screw into the monitor had come loose and there were sounds of small pieces bouncing around inside. I returned it and ordered another one. The second one arrived with the same problem but it was not as bad. I removed the case lid as I am comfortable doing so having built computers. Do not do this if your inexperienced as you will inevitably break a plastic clamp doing it incorrectly. With that said I discovered two small metal pieces that provide the screw mounts internally. One had come off and was at the bottom of the monitor. I also discovered that the pieces probably wouldn't have damaged in internal components as they are all well protected. I fixed it and it works great but I should not have to take a monitor apart to wall mount it. In Samsung's defense this is probably not an issue if you buy it a store as they are shipped to the store in bulk. I ordered online and had it shipped as a single unit. That probably caused the weak plastic clamp to break in transit but not enough to cause any other problems. It's clearly a design issue but since I love the lcd I could not return it and buy an Acer although I was tempted. I am sure Samsung will fix it but this isn't the experience I expected on my 10th or so Samsung product. Optimistic but disappointed they will fix it in future products but disappointed. - Brian, CT

Samsung 2233SW
Pros: Very clear sharp display, No dead pixels, easy to set up. [...] Cons: Slight picture flicker at 1920x1080 (Stable at 1680x1050), only 60 Hertz supported (May be video card: Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT) Controls on side of monitor: to view you must turn monitor and have a bright light source. Other: Previously reported problem with the base assembly must have been corrected by Samsung, the base is now attached from the factory, (Monitor Manufacture's date: June 2009) The web site indicates a 15000:1 Dynamic Control; mine is marked as 50000:1. Side control problem bypass: copy & print expanded button display from downloaded manual; tape to front side display frame; use as guide next to each button. I selected monitor because of recent experience with Samsung's help desk & repair staff. TV 2 mos & 3 weeks past warranty, after talking to support (USA); registering online extended warranty 3 mos; fixed 2 days later in home: no charge.

Bought this Samsung July 2008; 3-year warranty. 1 year and 2 days after purchase the screen starts flickering. Within a week it wouldn't display a picture at all-- backlight was gone (I was told). Sent to NJ for repair; turn around time was good (10 days). 4 months later? Same problem. My busiest time of year and I have to send this is again for the same problem?? I'm being forced to buy another monitor to fill in for when the Samsung is dead. But I won't be buying another Samsung. I gave away my 8yo H-P last week. What timing, huh?

Far surpassed my expectations,

I told myself that when it came time to buy a new monitor that I would not buy one without having seen it first. But the price on this one was good, the user reviews were good to excellent (except a few people who seemed to have trouble putting the stand together: Problem fixed apparently because it took me all of 30 seconds to put it on) and I have had nothing but good luck with Samsung.
Connecting the monitor was a breeze and Windows XP recognized it right away even without the CD. Once I changed the resolution to 1920x1080 my jaw hit the floor: This is the sharpest picture I have ever seen on a computer monitor. Very very satisfied with the whole experience. Highly recommended!

Great monitor at a great price. Beautiful image quality - significant improvement over my NEC 1760 monitor. Had no problem attaching the base.

I went from a 19 inch to this monitor, and all I can say is WOW. I still use analog with it and it is still amazing. The small DPI drew me to this product, and the sale price sold me. I have zero dead pixels, and as usual, Amazon delivered it very fast.
