I am really happy with the purchase of this monitor. I haven't seen too many reviews on it, so I was bit skeptical at first when purchasing it. It is the perfect size, 5ms response time, HDCP compliant, 16:9, and has a 20000:1 contrast ratio. One of the things about monitors in this size is the 16:9 viewing ratio - Some are not, and if you are interested in watching HDTV on your monitor then you'll have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, which I personally don't like. Pairs well with a Blu-ray player and HDCP compliant video card. I'm using it for all sorts of tasks - video and picture editing, blu-ray movies, internet, etc. I'm not a gamer so I can't comment on that end of it. All in all, a great value for the size and quality.
One note on the stand assembly: Use a bit of olive oil and place it around the rubber ring on the inside of the stand insert. This helps the stand slide into place much more easily, and will not hurt the monitor as long as you use the olive oil sparingly.

well no surprises here that samsung has made a fantastic hd monitor that not only looks great, but has plenty of options and settings to change, which will suit just about anyone who uses it. while setting up the monitor it reminded of my samsung lcd tv because it gave auto adjusts to not only clarity, but to size and color, or custom to your liking. its very crisp and hard to find any reason i would not like it. i have it sitting on my desk (which is glass) and looks great, however when im typing fast the monitor does tend to wobble just a tad, but i would blame my desk more than i would the monitor (but something to be aware of). the blue light under the samsung name gives it even more of a modern and rich look. watching "hd" on youtube has given me an entirely new experience, as well as watching widescreen dvd's, and netflix! i would definatly buy this product again, i found it on sale for only 169 so that was a serious bargain! register it on samsung.com to extend your warrenty, and the only other thing i would say is find yourself some new wallpaper for your desktop. all of my old wallpapers were meant for regular monitors so they looked a little stretched out on this monitor. help yourself to google images, search 'hd wallpaper' and there are plenty of 1080p pics to choose from that will make your jaw drop once you see them on your new monitor!

I bought this on impulse because it was on sale. I'd wanted a dual monitor setup in my home office for a while, and since my existing monitor was a 22.5" Samsung 2253LW, I thought this would be a good second monitor.
I was totally wrong. The 2253LW, which I've been using since early 2008, is an excellent monitor. The color and value ranges are very, very smooth, the blacks are dark, and it's large enough to work comfortably on. I'm a graphic designer, so the monitor is one of my most important pieces of hardware, and the 2253LW definitely measured up. So why was buying the 2333SW such a bad idea? Because the 2333SW is a work of art. I knew that the new screen would be larger, but they're actually the same height (the original might even be a little taller, the new 2333 is just wider). The problem is that as great as the 2253LW is, the 2333SW is sooooo much better. I had no idea that white could be so much whiter, colors could be so much crisper, and the picture could be so much clearer. So now I've got to get rid of the old monitor and buy another 2333SW to replace it. Thanks for nothing, Samsung.

Well, when i bought this monitor, i just marveled at the size, and clarity. One little problem i had with this monitor was a tiny little buzzing sound that comes from the back of the monitor. well im always playing music while im on my computer, so it doesnt really affect me... but whenever i turn the music off, and need total quiet to write a paper, project etc... this tiny buzzing noise starts getting on your nerves really fast. I read online and found out that some people got this problem and others didnt. well what i did to solve this problem was to just put on headphones. other than that, everyone has to remember that it is just a monitor, unless your work requires the extra details etc... in the era of everything becoming HD, 1080p etc... this monitor is no suprise in the evolution of technology.

I ordered the monitor at the end of September and I had to send the monitor in for repair because about fifteen colored vertical lines appeared on the right side at the end of November. I had to mail it at my expense to a New Jersey service center. I am waiting for it to return. Samsung said it would take about seven to ten days for repair. I went on line and found another persopn having the same issue. Not happy.

Received my monitor today. Taking it out of the box and assembling it was extremely easy. Just had to screw the base on. The pictures of the box that I had been shown all said 20000:1 dynamic ratio, but this box (and monitor) had 50000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, so I wasn't going to really complain.
So, I take it out of the box, get it set up and plugged in. I turn it on and the colors look pretty awful, the screen really washed out. Definitely not what I'd spent a decent amount of cash on, or so I was thinking. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and the included calibration utilities adamantly refused to cooperate. Going online, I found that Samsung had released a new (more Windows 7 capable) version of their software. So, I installed that and got it running. I did the advanced calibration, and now things look utterly fantastic. So if you're willing to spend a little time to calibrate the monitor, it's going to look fantastic to you. If you go with the out of the box settings, well, they will not look so wonderful.

Great monitor if you can get a deal on it,

Just got this monitor on sale from a different merchant. Here are my initial impressions:
Color is fantastic. The 24" Acer I've had for a couple of years looked great next to my 5+ year-old 19", but this Samsung's even better. The main difference is in contrast...the Acer gets a lot brighter than this one, but it's a more even, washed-out brightness. This one is nice and bright when displaying white content, but looks darker on average because the darks are deeper. I just watched Gran Torino on blu-ray on it through my PS3, and it looked great. Yay for no more stretched video like with my 24"er! I don't see any dead/stuck pixels. Horizontal viewing angle is pretty good, although the vertical isn't great. Sitting directly in front of it, the top of the screen is noticeably darker than the middle/bottom. This is true of all TN LCDs, but this one seems a bit worse than most in this regard. Finally, it's slightly narrower (about a quarter-inch) than my 24", which was a bit disappointing. I was hoping it'd be the same width, just shorter by the lost 120 horizontal lines. It's not a big deal, but that means the pixels are even smaller than the already-dense 24"er, which means the detail is even harder to see from far away. Similarly, the monitor actually looks kinda small compared to the 24" one it's sitting next to. I didn't think 1" less would make it look that much smaller. But this is a minor quibble. All in all, a great monitor if you can get a deal on it, especially considering it can play PS3 movies/games at full resolution without stretching them. And while it's too small to be very good as an HD TV in a living room, it'd make a pretty good inexpensive HD TV in a dorm or bed room (if hooked up to a computer, of course...it doesn't have a tuner).

I bought this monitor to replace a 19" Viewsonic monitor I got a few years ago and it was a huge upgrade! The picture on this monitor is so amazing, you actually feel like you are looking out a window! I found a few sites online that offer 1080p wallpapers and they are definately worth checking out on this monitor.
There is a bit of backlight bleed but you really only see it when the monitor is completely black and all of the lights are off in the room. I also would have liked to see this monitor have an HDMI slot but those my only two "cons" to this monitor. The color is vivid and games look great. I don't see any artifacts or blurring when there is a lot of action on the screen. My monitor didn't have any dead or stuck pixles and the stand was very easy to attach. If you are looking for a high quality, HD computer monitor, this should be at the top of your list!

This is my first foray into large (over 20") lcd's. This Samsung is hard to beat. The screen really outshines my Dell 17" laptop with the glossy screen, that it runs side by side with. Amazing! All images are crisp and clean and the resolution (1920x1080) makes it a lot easier on the eyes (def. bonus here). I can't say much more about how great this monitor is so far. I will just point out some negatives (but keep in mind, they are very minor). First off, there is no physically adjusting this thing. No pan, tilt, etc. You mount it on the included stand and that's it. I have to find another stand to bring this to the proper ergonomic height for me. Now, to be honest, I assume Samsung did this for a couple of reasons - 1) to keep the price down and 2) engineering a mount that could move this size of screen around and still be reliable would ruin #1. Another tick is the buttons on the side of the screen for power, etc, are not labeled or identified in any way. There are 6 buttons set vertically on the right side of the monitor and you have to guess or pull the manual to see what they do. Finally, while I love the glossy finish, its a dust magnet. Again, these are all minor points that do not affect the performance of this outstanding product. Buy it now! You won't regret it!

Not a bad monitor, but there are better options.,
This review is from: Samsung 2333SW 23-Inch Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I've been looking for a second monitor for a while, and decided to replace my primary monitor (a ViewSonic VG2230WM 22-inch LCD) with the Samsung 2333SW.
First impressions: *As others have noted here and elsewhere, the base is ridiculously difficult to install without some sort of lubricant. *The included DVI cable is surprisingly short. *The height is not adjustable. *The 16:9 aspect ratio is great for videos, but takes a little getting used to when coming from a widescreen monitor that isn't HD spec. The colors are vivid and bright, but not accurate for any production work. Games and movies look great on the monitor, but getting it properly calibrated for image and video editing is a pain. Keep that in mind, if you're buying this for a specific purpose. Although Samsung has monitors with faster refresh, you have to try really hard to get any sort of ghosting from this monitor. In fact, I'd say this is a suitable HDTV replacement, if you don't need a built-in tuner. If you were to take five monitors and sit them together out of the box, the image quality on the 2333SW will almost certainly stand out. But once the monitor is properly calibrated, you'll start to run out of reasons to choose this monitor over similar -- and less expensive -- models from LG or Viewsonic. |
