A Great Bargain- as far as I know,

This review is from: Samsung 30-inch Widescreen Slimfit CRT HDTV (Electronics)
Now before any electronics enthusiasts jump in with "you could have gotten a better deal here with this thing and that thing and blah blah blah" I don't care. I bought this TV and I am extremely happy with it. On with the review.First: SLIMFIT says it all. The dimensions make it practical and sleek-looking. If you're like me with a DVD player, a PS3, a VCR and a cable box to plug in, you know how much of a pain it can be to get around a big, bulky OLD CRT TV to get the cables from point A to B (and C and D and E etc.). With this TV's slim design it is 1. lighter and therefor easier to move around if needed and 2. slimmer so that depending upon the space you're working with you can just walk right around it like I can. Second: HDTV + CRT. Thank god. If you've gone into any Best Buy or other major electronics store you have undoubtedly seen the massive walls of plasma/LCD televisions playing insanely high-res videos. Don't be fooled. These are High Definition feeds, NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF YOUR BASIC CABLE CHANNELS. Make sure you ask to see what a non-HD channel looks like one them, because - believe me - it is NO GOOD. The majority of regular cable (Comcast, for example) providers do not have many HD channels UNLESS you are buying a premium package. Even then, the channels you already have are not improved to HD standards; you're just getting new channels (mostly sports-related channels) which are HD quality. With this TV, you get the benefits of HD capabilities AND the benefit of seeing regular (non-HD) cable channels as you already do, if not slightly better. Third: PRICE. When I bought this TV I paid roughly 600 for it from Amazon. For 400 it is now an absolute steal. Especially compared to the price tags you see on other LCD/Plasma TVs- $1000+? Forget about it. I think that's about all I have to offer here. As for negatives? I haven't found any. I mean I really haven't. Again, I'm no up-to-the-minute electronics enthusiast. I'm just a regular guy, who likes to watch a little TV, a few blu-ray or DVDs now and then and play my PS3. Keep this TV in mind.

Luck of the Draw,

I've had an older model of this tv for almost two years. It broke once in the first month, got it fixed for free from best buy. It's been working great since then.A lot of the reviews complain about misalignment or severe bowing around the corners. My tv doesn't do this at all, but I have seen some that have. My guess is that it's the luck of the draw--I got lucky. The only problem with the screen is best buy's fault. When they fixed it, they must have turned the brightness up, because now i have a minor burn-in on the lower right corner...way to piss me off! My other complaint is that CRT's are old technology. They are so damn heavy, it's a pain to move it. Check out LCD's. My recommendation is if you're on a severe budget but want an HDTV, get this. Get it at a local store because there are many potential problems, you can just go get it swapped. If, however, you have a little more (meaning a couple hundred more) to spend, I'm going to suggest the Sharp Aquos line of tv's. If you shop at the right times, you can get a 26" or even a 30" for around 700. If you're in the market for an HDTV and want quality, you're pretty limited to Samsung (best), Sony, and Sharp. Everything is notably inferior when compared side to side. If you're going for extreme budget, go with Vizio. I give this four stars because for the my tv, it's a great quality with a good budget. However, compare it to an LCD, and there are a lot of faults. One thing CRT's will always have an upper hand is the richness of black colors. Happy Shopping!

Very poor quality,

I bought this TV in Feb 2006. It had bad bowing problems and had to be replaced two weeks after purchase. The replacement TV also had bowing problems and Samsung finally got around to sending me a tech in Feb 2007 to repair it. Now it is Aug 2007 and out of warranty. The TV has shut off completely and does not turn on. I called Samsung and they told me that since it is out of warranty I am responsible for it. Their customer service is not helpful at all, kept me on hold for hours, and transfered me to different departments. Finally, their customer relations executive told me she was tranferring me to senior management. A week later when I called to follow up, I found she had lied and closed the case. How do they sell a $800 TV that is so bad, and follow up with customer service that is dishonest? I guess this is the last time I will buy a Samsung product.
