Don't waste your time ...,

This review is from: Samsung A437 Red Phone (AT&T) Version 1 (Wireless Phone)
This phone looks good and has decent specs but the design has a fundamental flaw that makes this phone completely unusable. The moronic and insane designers of this phone placed an extremely touch sensitive dedicated camera button right where your thumb naturally places when you hold the phone. As a result, the camera is constantly being activated even when the phone is closed. The only way you can get out of that mode is to take a picture (and then subsequently delete it). In fact, that button is so sensitive that you don't even have to touch the phone ... just hit the surface of the table on which the phone sits and the camera will automatically activate. You get a call and you pick up the phone ... oops the camera is on ... go through the routine of 4 buttons before you can use the phone. A complete waste of time and money ... save yourself the trouble and maintain your sanity ... get another phone!

I was looking to upgrade my cell phone. I went to the AT&T store in Lee's Summit to look at phones. The phone needed to have a camera. I looked at both Motorola and Sony-Ericson phones. I saw this phone and decided to purchase it. I like the phone because it has big buttons and display. This is a great phone for those who don't see so well like me. At first, it takes a little bit to figure out how to access voicemail and the photos that one takes with the camera. After tinkering with the phone for about 15 mins., I know where those features are. It has great reception. I was down at Truman Lake over the Labor Day weekend and had no problems getting service. I was having problems getting service with my old phone. It's easy to keep in your pocket. You almost forget it is there!

The design was great. I liked the functionality and interface with the exception of the camera turning on randomly in my pocket. About three months with it though, the face cracked (apparently a common problem with this phone). It did not affect the function of the phone and I used it for another three months. Without dropping it, sticking it in water or any other normal reason, the phone died on me. Luckily for the manufacturer, they don't have to replace it because the crack in the face excuses them. Smart on their part to design a flimsy face so that when their phone does die they can blame it on that, and you are SOL.

decent phone but gets very poor reception,
This review is from: Samsung A437 Red Phone (AT&T) Version 1 (Wireless Phone)
My husband and I switched companies to at&t so that he could get an i-phone and I decided to get a new phone too. I went with this one because it was free. The first one we got died after two days of use and all the charging in the world couldn't bring it back to life. Turns out we got a lemon! Grr. We went all the way back and got me the same type of phone and the second one has a good battery but still has very poor reception. I thought it was just the first phone (the lemon) that did this but turns out it's this brand. I also thought it was just on my end but everyone I talk to also has a difficult time understanding me. Constantly cutting in and out. I get just about every other word people are saying. We're going back to get ANOTHER new phone and this time we're going to get a good one! I had an LG for 4 years and loved it. Maybe we'll go back to that. P.S. I completely agree with the comment about the position of the camera button - not the best location for that.

I brought this prepaid phone refurbished for about $30 with a $10 calling card. This phone is an simple to use phone, supports 850/900/1850/1900/edge and bluetooth headsets. If you google around, you can easily unlock the phone and use it for another carrier. One thing I liked is that this phone is for first time cell phone users, and my dad was able to use it with no problems. When you try to dial a phone #, the phone # comes out big and legable. The battery life is very good and the call quality is decent.
The phone supports mp3 ringtones (up to 300kb) and you can upload/download pictures to/from to your computer if you buy an usb cable from a place like ebay. You have to google to get samsung multimedia studio and the drivers for the phone. However, it only has 4mb of disk storage and the storage is not expandable. It is not the best phone out there but a dececent one. This phone is probably best for those people in the middle of the contract who broke their phones and want a cheap phone for replacement.

dont listen to everyone saying that this phone will break, because it wont unless you are electronically retarded and do not know how to handle a freaking cell phone. Anyway the phone gets great reception and is extremely easy to use with a huge display. Also it is physicaly well made and most likely will not break. So dont listen to these retarded people who think they know what quality is because I assure you they dont.

I bought this one for my husband because the keys are simple and the layout is nice, the red is appealing and the size is small
However, my husbands phone lasted 2 months and then the screen just went blank and that was it, he returned it, they sent another one, he had it for 2 weeks and the front screen cracked. My husband has had lots of phones and is very easy going on the phones he has owned in the past, but this one is cheaply made and flimsy in my opinion! dont waste your money! Cell phone companies need to quit making these plastic like phones, we need more rugged phones that stand up to being in a pocket throughout the day.

I have had this phone for several years, and it works great. I have dropped it, knocked it around, etc., and it keeps on going.

I've had two of these phones, one red one charcoal, and the only problem I've had with them is that my 90 year old mother has lost them both. I am ready to buy another one right now. It is a good basic phone with large buttons and easy to read type, even my mother can use it and read it with no problem.
The camera is a bit sensitive, but it is easy to get out of, I can't believe someone thought they had to take a picture. Volume is decent for a thin phone and reception is at least average. I get no more drop outs or call problems than with any other phone I have ever owned. The photo quality is not all that great but I very seldom use it anyway. They both held up well . I really do not have anything negative to say about it.

Can I get a refund for the problems related to this device?,

I admit I was taken by the sleek design, the placement of the buttons and the keys. I like the metallic red finish, and I enjoy the picture quality. I like some of the features, but I have major problems with how the phone operates.
Many of my calls seem to drop. I thought this was relative to where I live, however, I didn't have any problems with other phones I've used in this residence. The reception is awful. many times I'll hear static, the caller will cut out, or I'll get crickets. While I like the size of the phone, it's a little too small for my tastes. I get hand cramps from using this a lot. I bought a case which adds some substance to the device and has been helpful, but it's not good enough. One of my biggest complaints is the placement of the antenna. I have to be very aware of where I place my hand in relation to the phone or I get a lot of static, a dropped call, or the silent treatment. I have found it frustrating that I can't put my feet up and chat. The antenna is so bad that I have found that I need to find a specific place to stand in my home, hold the phone in a certain way to make sure I get reception. I don't have any problem with Samsung: I love their HD TVs and other products they make. I sense that this phone is a turkey. I've had a RAZR, iphone and a few other Motorola products and didn't have any of the same problems I've had with this device. |
