My recently purchased (elsewhere) MHL adapter worked fine on my last phone, but the Samsung Galaxy SIII requires a different pin layout. This doesn't mean Samsung uses a proprietary pin layout, just that they use the newest spec of the MHL standard. As such, I'd rather pay $10 for this miniscule 5 to 11 pin adapter than pay $40 for an entirely new Samsung-branded MHL adapter. Adding this part to the 5 pin MHL adapter I already own allows my SGS3 to play the way it should. But $10 for an item that costs like $0.25 to manufacture in bulk seems a bit steep. That's why I took off one star. But I still bought it...

Get your head out of your a** Amazon! I didn't read the reviews closely since the description is for a Samsung item I know to work fine. But, what I recieved is not the item described! Samsung makes 2 different MHL. One for the older generation Galaxy products which all use a 5-pin micro usb and one for the latest Galaxy products(Galaxy SIII and Note 2) which use an 11-pin micro usb. What I recieved was the Samsung 5-pin to 11-pin adapter that allows the older MHL to be used on the newer devices. The item pictured here is actually the pin adapter, but everything else about this listing is WRONG. I guess I should have been clued in by the fact that this listing has this MHL priced half of what everyone is selling it for and the avaerage price for the pin adapter. I've never had one in hand, so I didn't notice the picture is of an item that doesn't match the description. Looking at the other reviews, I'm not the only one this has happened to. I would boil this down to a non-Amazon seller problem, except Amazon is one of the listed sellers availabe for this product. I've been ordering a lot of products through Amazon for my employer for years problem free, but this is the 3rd order in a month that has been totally SNAFU. I work 2 blocks from the amazon offices in Seattle and personally know quite a few employees(good and smart people) and all I can say is that, I realize I-502 passed but you guys should seriously not be this stoned on the job. Come on Amazonians, you seriously need to fix this!

In short, if you want to connect your phone to an external monitor and you don't want a big frustrating situation that will waste your time and money, DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT.

So this is the deal:
This thing should be called a "5 pin to 11 pin adapter." You have to use this in conjunction with a conventional micro USB to HDMI connector. Apparently, Samsung S3 and the Samsung Note II use an 11 pin configuration. The Samsung SII and most other devices with micro-usb to HDMI capability use a 5 pin configuration.

So in summary:
1. This device will only work with the Samsung SIII or the Samsung Note II.
2. You will need a micro-usb to HDMI adaptor to connect it to and HDMI cable THEN connect it to the TV/monitor/whatever.
3. There is no where that you can hook up a charger to this thing so make sure that that the additional cable you buy has a slot for the charger because if you use HDMI out WHILE charging your battery will still die let alone HDMI out without charging which will definitely kill it quick.

Lastly if you want to buy both the 5pin to 11 pin adapter with the HDMI out and charging capability look up this product:
"Samsung Micro USB to HDMI 1080P HDTV Adapter Cable with 5 Pin to 11 Pin Micro-USB adapter for Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2 and MHL-enabled Smartphones and Tablets "

False advertising all the way around. If you have a Note 2 and we're hoping to connect it to your HDTV this is not going to work with this adapter as it does not fit for the Note 2 even though it is advertised that it does.

This worked perfectly to hook up my old Skiva MHL cable to my HDTV. Also, the issue where signal would constantly drop in and out on my old phones was fixed with this tip.

Beware: There is an incorrect description for this item on some pages of Amazon. It is incorrectly described on some pages as a "Micro USB to HDMI 1080P HDTV Adapter". Another page has its correct description "HDTV Adapter TIP (5 to 11 Pin Converter)". It is a Micro 5 to 11 pin convertor. It does not have an HDMI connection only a 5 pin micro and an 11 pin micro.

I bought this along with a couple cords to make the connection between my Galaxy Note 2 and my Sony TV. At first, my long and precarious chain of connections worked great. However, after plugging/unplugging this adapter from my phone a few times, the connect has gotten too loose, and falls out, making it pretty much unusable unless I hold the phone and adapter together with a little force. When it did work, it was a great picture on my TV though!

Make sure you read all the information here and in the reviews! This will not instantly allow you to watch things on your HDTV from your phone with just an HDMI cord. Make sure you buy this plus the correct cable!!!

Works well for me, no issues with quality as the images pass through the adapter.

Ridiculous price for some a small, simple device but it works and is necessary when connecting many newer car receivers to a Samsung Android device.

I think the adapter I got was a knock off not an original Samsung product. It works pretty well, sometimes my display screen will go black or have white static on the screen. When it does this I can either unplug/replug the adapter from the phone or change sources on the monitor and the picture will be right back. Sometimes it will work for hours while other times it will work for just a couple of minutes before it messes up.
