I don't really have any concerns because it's refurbished. It came repacked from the factory with everything needed even a HDMI cable, a remote, 2 AAA batteries not included and manual. Everything appears as new.
I was surprised to find no port for a network connection.
I just assumed it would have one.Sony BDP-S5100 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi
Connecting to a wireless router took 5 tries.
It's used with a Samsung TV so the DVD remote operates both.

I returned it.
Within the last 5 days of this review update, Samsung issued a software update. Afterwards, it would not stream Netflix with out freezing. There was another software update. The only apparent difference was Netflix would stream for about 30 minutes instead of 20 minutes before freezing up.
I tried Samsung's support procedures. After about an hour, with no improvement. I suddenly realized " I shouldn't have to be a systems analyst" to get the player to work.
Amazon is the bomb! This return was within the 30 day return period. Amazon supplied the return label.
It was picked up at my door and I purchased, from Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWKC0JM/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0

I was in need of a new blu ray player and because of the netflix streaming. I thought this would be a good one. It isn't. The netflix streaming freezes and stops and I have to unplug the whole thing to get it to power off and restart... Every single time!! It started doing this three days after the 30 day period that I was able to return it. Very disappointed and very frustrated.

Nice player but the device doesn't have a lot of streaming options compared to the Sony player I purchased a few years ago. No Amazon instant video, Crackle, etc. The unit also doesn't have an on board Ethernet port. The disc player does boot quickly and starts playing right away. Netflix and Hulu+ start quickly too.

Wi-fi would not connect automatically or manually. Spent hours on the phone with support when they finally got back with me the third time I was tired of messing with it and had already sent it back. although the player it self had a great picture the channel selection was very limited. I would not recommend this product.

I was comparing blu-ray players in the sub-$100 range, among them was the Samsung BD-5700. It seemed to have the features I wanted, but a lot of Amazon reviewers cited problems with the Netflix streaming and other bugs, mostly in early 2014. A lot of reviewers presumably returned them. Oddly enough, later reviews (summer 2014) swung favorable following a firmware update Samsung made available...

...lo and behold, a little more digging and I found this listing for the "Certified Refurbished" BD-5700 at over $20 less than the new model. A full-featured Wifi Blu-Ray player for $55...? Surely these are the earlier returns simply needing the firmware update, right? I took a shot, and could not be happier!

I'm not sure what exactly was "refurbished": I could tell my player had been opened, but it was cosmetically perfect and even had the protective film on the plastic casing. There was no twisty-tie on the power cord (oh boo hoo!) and the batteries for the remote were loose even though the remote was still in its baggie. Eh, who cares... those loose batteries just saved me almost 25 bucks. But perhaps other units might be different...?

At any rate, I hooked it up and it turned on, quietly. Configured my network, went right to the update menu and sure enough, it had the older firmware, with a much never version available. Downloading and installing the new version took all of two minutes, and DONE. No problems with Netflix that I can tell (granted, I haven't marathoned anything yet but I'm a light viewer anyway).

This family of Samsung DVD/Blu Ray Players has a wide and not obvious range of minor features, but a must have feature for me was the coax audio out, and this player does not have it despite specifically stating it does. Immediate return.

I'm tech savvy and not afraid to call tech support and follow advice on on-line forums. Everything worked except the Netflix app. I really wanted this unit to work and tried everything I could: uploading new firmware, altering DNS and IP address on my router, reset Netflix passwords, multiple resets, and some other weird things suggested by Samsung's sometimes helpful, sometimes not, tech support. The tech help depends on the individual you reach - some are knowledgeable but some don't even seem to understand that this is a disc player. One even told me to talk the supplier of the app, not Samsung. Explaining that Samsung provided the app with the player (and, therefore, had the responsibility to get it to work) seemed to fall on deaf ears.
In any case, nothing worked. Netflix failed to even get to the log-in page. I returned the unit. If you use Hulu or only play discs, go for it. Netflix users should not bother.
