So far Samsung has been fixing this player. Thank you Samsung. We are at firmware 1015 now. What I like to see Samsung do is to IMPROVE THE WEB BROWSER. Samsung its LONG OVERDUE! After surfing the internet for a little while the web browser may crash and would need to restart. Sometimes the browser crash would cause the player itself to restart.

Lately I have noticed that a lot of Linux devices drop their wireless connection when powered off such as my newer addition to entertainment, a DirecTV DVR. When we think of powering a device OFF, it should be OFF and no power should be used. Well keeping a wireless connection requires power. It would be nice if devices were designed to use a little power to maintain the wireless connection. I don't mind it because it uses so little power to maintain a device connection while it sleeps. So I can't be absolutely sure what I said below that the wireless connection doesn't get dropped, but I'll let someone else test that more thoroughly because I don't intend to use the wireless. My player has been hard wired to my network because its gets me the best video streaming performance from my NAS. Streaming smoothly on wireless depends on the picture resolution of the video. If the resolution is too high, you get stuttering. That is the problem of being wireless on any device.

I am still pleased with this player and currently using its built in browser on a 55¨ Sony TV for this update. I like Samsung to continue making improvements to this amazing unit.

BE SURE TO HOOK UP TO THE INTERNET AND UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE PEOPLE!!! While you're at it, be sure to upgrade the player's apps too!

I would say its undoubtedly one of the best blu ray players for 2013 with 4k upscaling with a few issues.

I have always been a fan of Samsung blu ray family. This time wanted to try out the others in the market as i was disappointed that my 2011 TV dint have Amazon instant video and so did my 2011 Samsung BDD6700 blu ray player.

I have tested out the following

1) Sony BDP-S790 (2012 model continues to 2013)
Have never been a great fan of Sony. But wanted to give it a try. I knew i am not a person who loves sony's interface and their clunky plastic remote, that makes noise every time you click a button. But yet, as i have heard the great picture quality i wanted to give it a try.

As expected, faster loads/reads of blu ray disc had great picture. But the annoying sounds from pressing the plastic button on the so plasticky remote, slow buffering speeds while watching internet movies (netflix, vudu) and everytime trying to figure out your network speed before playing a video on Amazon instant video just made me give this blu ray player up.

2) LG BP730 (2013)
Have heard good about this one as well, but you will have to try them out to actually find out how great they work :)
Best part of this was the Magic remote, its just so cool and fun to operate :)
Disc does load fast, slightly slower than Sony BDPS790. Noticeable difference between the picture quality of the same blu ray disc i had played on Sony, the quality here seemed to be little degraded.
When played internet tv, i did not face any buffering issues like i had faced with Sony but the picture quality while playing same video from netflix image was not clear at all (compared with Sony).

If you don't have a Smart TV, this player will let you connect to the Internet to browse the web from your TV. With this device you get access to Samsung's Smart Hub suite to stream videos on demand. Also, I was reading that you can watch your shows on demand with Catch Up TV services but I have not tried it yet. The S Recommendation feature suggests content based on your previous selections. Using the built-in Wi-Fi you can wirelessly share photos and videos with other devices. Anynet+ lets me control my TV and this device with 1 remote, you can actually control about a dozen HDMI devices with 1 remote. This device has dual-core 900Mhz processor, boot up is almost instant, loading movies and web pages load very quickly. Smart View sends video from your Blu-ray player to a Samsung mobile device. The picture is very clear, with great color and definition. Pictures especially in 3D are life like. The sound is crisp and clear, the audio output supports 7.1 channels. The device has 2 HDMI outputs. You can play and convert your music CD's into your MP3 players using the CD Ripping option.

So I have two Sony BDP-590's...and they are great. But I wanted something that was a step-up, and I already own a new Samsung Smart TV, so I decided to give this one a try. One word: Awesome. This Blu-Ray player is extremely fast (loads up in half the time it takes my Sony), and the 3D/Blu-Ray picture is as good as it gets. Also, the apps and main frame interface is very useful and easy to understand. The best part is the Samsung Anynet. This allows you to control all of your devices from one remote. This is as good as advertised. As for the 4K part of it, I do not own a 4K TV, so I cannot comment on how good that will be. Overall this is the best Blu-Ray player I own, and I will report back if I have any issues down the road.
