The page does a poor job of describing what this item is and does.

I just bought a Samsung CLP-300 printer, and read in the manual about the Samsung Waste Toner Collector (CLP-W300A) and what it does.

One of these (the collector) comes with a new CLP-300 series printer. This is a bottle that fills as you print, with toner that is taken from the toner cartridge cylinders, but not used during the printing process. Samsung seems to have had a good idea doing it this way rather than having it accumulate in some inaccessible space within the unit.

The Toner Collector also has what appears to be an optical port on the side (most likely to enable the printer to tell when it is full).

The documentation that comes with the printer specifies the Toner Collector needs to be replaced when full, which (it seems) they expect after printing between 1250 and 5000 pages (at 5% saturation for color and B/W print, respectively). Failure to replace A FULL Waste Toner Collector results in stoppage of printing.

I don't see any reason not to simply dump the toner and clean out the supplied collector when it gets full, except that that could turn out to be a messy job, and it may be simpler to plunk down the 10-15 bucks to just buy a new one.

In summary: this Waste Toner Collector is an internal part of the Samsung CLP-300 series printer, found just inside the front access panel, and it is easily removed and replaced.

I would have bought a new one, but they seem to be hard to come by quickly, for a reasonable price. Amazon doesn't stock them and the "other sellers" are not very well known. No luck at Office Depot, Staples, Tiger Direct, Adorama, etc. So . . . I just dumped mine out (yes, it's a dusty job), brushed it off, and put it back in. Seems to work fine. I was amazed, however, at the large quantity of toner I paid for that has been wasted. There doesn't seem to be any point in buying a new one of these, but maybe after a few cycles it'll get clogged. For now, though, all is well.

I think that this is a great idea, and the cartridge is easy to replace, but I had a hard time finding it on Samsung's site so I came here where I also had a difficult time finding it. I mainly blame Samsung for this because their online help didn't list the product number (CLP-W300A) in any of their help files.

Clean the one you've got--shake the unit to dump the toner dust into a plastic bag--it IS a mess, so do this outside. Throw the bag away. Rinse unit with hose until unit is clean inside and out. Let it dry THOROUGHLY--outside in the sun is great. Put it back in and print.

I'm sure this product works fine (it's basically a customized plastic bucket), but it's completely unnecessary - the existing waste collection unit can simply be carefully emptied and reinserted, saving both money AND plastic.

I used the original one for a year and emptied it when it got full and cleaned the "lens" off and that seemed to work well. About the time I got a new one of these the whole printer quit working. My husband is a network manager and wasn't able to fix it. So we got a new one of another brand.

If you choose to clean the waste container yourself, do not underestimate the messiness. It's a lot of black fine dust. Do not clean inside your home. Good luck.

You know, waste toner collectors may come and waste toner collectors may go, but in my ever-so-humble opinion, this Samsung Waste Toner Collector collects waste toner better than any other waste toner collector I have ever seen collect waste toner. The packaging is inviting yet functional, the box-opening experience rivals any other waste toner collector box-opening experience out there, and since its installation I have not seen even a teaspoon of waste toner spilling out onto the table and turning my fingers magenta, yellow, or even cyan. Thank you, Samsung. Thank you.

The Toner Waste Container was an easy install and it works fine, I just wish you got more of a warning from the printer that the container was getting full. Ours filled up as the kids were working on final projects for the year. Without a replacement on hand or an early warning, they had to punt and print at school rather than at home. I can't complain too much, we've owned the printer for four years without any other issues.
