2.0 out of 5 stars A mind of its own, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Samsung : DV448AGP 7.4 cu. ft. Super Capacity Gas Dryer - Stainless Platinum
I first purchased this unit about 7 months ago and if I wanted to dry a second load of clothes right after the first, it would shut off right away and not dry the clothes. None of the service people (contracted by Samsung) knew what they were doing or had any knowledge in repairing these units. So Samsung was nice enough to replace the unit. In my situation I had to have the local propane people do the conversion in which the front cover and top has to be removed to get to the parts required. So I had to pay twice now to have the conversion done.

So I get the new unit today and the propane people arrive the same day to convert it only to find out that the new unit doesn't heat at ALL! Of course the store says that they sell a lot of them and don't have problems, but I had two out of two. Don't bother calling or chatting with Samsung, because all they have is a manual like you have when they attempt to support you.

I am very unhappy with the reliability and the service.

1.0 out of 5 stars Large Capacity Promises, Low Capacity Quality, August 10, 2011
This review is from: Samsung : DV448AGP 7.4 cu. ft. Super Capacity Gas Dryer - Stainless Platinum
We purchased this unit within the last year hoping its large capacity would help to clear up the log jam in our laundry room and for a while it did just that.

Lately the thing stopped working and we discovered a series of nasty surpises: A fried electornic control board, a broken drive belt, one of the four rollars that supports the drum having separated from its bearing and gone walkabout, and a torn drum seal. All this after a bit more than 6 months' family use.

We also found that although we live in an urban area with a lot of appliance repair shops, there are relatively few who work on Samsungs (and the one we found missed most of the problems). Then we discovered that parts for this thing do not seem to be stocked cy local sources and have to be ordered from Samsung direct.

With an unresponsive repair shop and laundry piling up, I went to replace the drive belt myself, which is when I learned that the design of this thing is such that you have to disassemble most of the unit to get to the motor. Not easy or cheap (and not helped by the fact that this product is new enough that most of the guidance for replacing Samsung belts on line do not apply to this dryer).

The final touch: the "stainless steel" trim on the front is already showing rust spots (the trim on the companion washer is worse: it is simply covered in rust)

Bottom line: we have a unit that though less than a year old looks like it is 10 years old and acts like it is 15. What a lemon!

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, October 5, 2011
This review is from: Samsung : DV448AGP 7.4 cu. ft. Super Capacity Gas Dryer - Stainless Platinum
This dryer has been nothing but a total and complete hassle and waste of our money. The dryer spins all of our sheets into a super tight little ball/roll and then shuts off. Obviously, the entire middle of the roll is still wet, and we have to pull everything out, pull it apart, and then rearrange it when we put it back in the machine. We have to do this 8-10 times per load. I have called Samsung's customer service department a number of times. The best suggestion they have has is to wash the sheets with wet, heavy towels. Any person with any intelligence knows that you do not wash sheets and towels together as the lint and fluff from the towels will wreck your sheets. Laundry 101. That was the best suggestion they came up with. When a tech was finally booked to come out, I got a call from Samsung's technical department and was told that the drum on the machine was too heavy and that it's a design flaw with the unit. He said that they have had several people call with the same problem with this unit. This was certainly in contrast to what the customer service agent said that I had previously spoken with. He said he hadn't heard of any problems with this unit. I explained this on my fifth call to the customer service department and was basically treated like I was stupid and had no idea how to do laundry properly. I have NEVER had anything like this happen with any other dryer from any other manufacturer. The machine is clearly a dud, and so is the so-called wonderful customer service provided by Samsung. Stay away from SAMSUNG, and stay away from this unit in particular.
