Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-P331 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. In addition, top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Another handy feature is EZ-View letterbox eliminator, which makes it easy to enjoy full-screen pictures on 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs--even when you're watching widescreen DVDs. Supplied accessories include a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, instruction manual, and a remote control.

A top of the line DVD player,

This review is from: Samsung DVD-P331 Progressive-Scan DVD Player , Titanium (Electronics)
I bought this dvd player because all the rest of my equipment (a 17" LCD HD TV, 5.1 Surround, DTV Decoder) is made by samsung and I knew progressive scan would make a difference on my high definition tv. It has a very good picture, not like hdtv but that can't be expected from a dvd player. It has simple menus, and set itself up to my 16:9 TV. A very good player, but downgrade if yuo have an old analog tv.

Bad Experience,

I bought the Samsung P331 DVD player because I wanted to show picture CDs on my TV. It worked, but the slideshow often froze and I had to hit forward repeatedly to get it to continue. It also tended to pixilate and freeze with my homemade DVDs. Finally, it stopped working with ALL DVDs after just 17 months of occasional use. I only used it 2 or 3 times a month! Of course, customer service won't do anything but charge me $79.00 to fix it. I will never buy another Samsung DVD player again.

Terrible experiences with Samsung DVD players,
By A Customer
This review is from: Samsung DVD-P331 Progressive-Scan DVD Player , Titanium (Electronics)
Although their TVs and monitors are fine, I've had nothing but bad experiences with Samsung DVD players, and now would not buy one on a bet.Over the past 3 years, I've bought 5 of them (slow learner) for myself or as gifts (and this includes more expensive - like $180 - models). ALL have been defective (skip, spontaneously go to pause, won't read some DVDs, etc.). I had one replaced under warranty, and it did the same thing. Whatever their problem is, I would recommend avoiding Samsung. Panasonic, Toshiba, Magnavox, even a Cyberhome work fine for me.
