You'll be able to record up to 16-hours of video with a double sided 9.4 GB DVD-RAM disc, and up to 8-hours of images with a 4.7 GB DVD-RAM/-RW/-R disc (depending on the recording mode). You can set your recorder to one of four different recording speeds, each varying in recording quality and length. EP (6 or 8 hour) mode yields the most recording time, LP and SP modes provide less recording time with higher quality recording (between 2 and 4 hours), and XP mode gives you the highest quality recording. If FR mode is selected, the video quality is adjusted automatically so that all video for the scheduled time can be recorded onto the free disc space. Recording features include an auto chapter creator and one-touch direct copy button (for disc to disc recording).
The DVD-TR520 also offers 10-bit 54-MHz DAC and 2D Y/C separating circuitry for high-quality video recording and playback. It provides optical and coaxial digital audio outputs for Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel surround sound, as well as a selectable progressive-scan mode for smoother video with HD-compatible TVs via the component video output. It also offers the following video connections:
Note: This DVD player is designed to play "Region 1" pre-recorded DVDs only, and internal dubbing of copy-protected DVDs is not possible.

Not as good as it should be,

This review is from: Samsung DVD-TR520 Dual Drive DVD Recorder (Electronics)
I was hoping to get both a DVD recorder and a DVD duplicator in one. It works okay as a recorder, but it's not a very good duplicator. I've found it doesn't duplicate reliably. About 5% of the time the duplicated discs will not play, especially if the disc is full. It's not the media, since the same media works perfectly on my 3 to 1 tower duplicator. It's better to get a cheaper DVD recorder and a tower duplicator. You can get both for about the same price or slightly more than this DVD recorder.

This review is from: Samsung DVD-TR520 Dual Drive DVD Recorder (Electronics)
The customer review for SAMSUNG DVD-TR520 DUAL DRIVE DVD RECORDER was very helpful in me determining whether to buy one. I was contemplating on buying a dual drive recorder for the purpose of recording DVD to DVD until I read his/her review. As I read the technical portion of it that this recorder only plays back Region 1, that may be the problem why the copy version does not play. If it copies from a region free DVR & it only records & play back on a Region 1 version, that could be the problem. I had that problem with my portable DVD player. In my research I found that I recorded from a region free disk but my portable recorder would only play back for Region 1 disk. I then had to buy a region free portable DVD player so I could play my recorded DVRs. Thanks to the customer review. Renee W.
