Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-V2500 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The DVD-V2500 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
Using the Memory Stick interface, you can instantly transfer MP3 music files from portable media to hear favorite music through the full fidelity of a home-entertainment system. Digital photographers can show the whole family their work by removing the Memory Stick from a compatible camera and plugging it directly into the DVD-V2500. This is also a handy way to ferry MP3s from the computer to the living room.
The VCR delivers hi-fi stereo sound and quasi-S-VHS (QSPB) playback, which lets you view S-VHS cassettes--normally only playable on high-end S-VHS machines--in standard VHS resolution. Auto clock set saves hassle, and its dual-azimuth construction uses two pairs of recording heads rather than one, each optimized for a specific mode (one for SP recording, the other for EP).
Top-of-the-line component-video outputs (for DVD only) help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs for each format (DVD/VHS) channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. From DVD, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Want to enjoy surround effects from your stereo speakers? The unit's Phantom Surround Processor provides just that.
A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimum decoding of all disc formats, including HDCD (High-Definition Compatible Digital), a 20-bit encoding method used on many commercial CDs to deliver better sound than is possible through standard CDs. Another handy feature is screen-fit feature, which ensures that DVD images are configured perfectly for both widescreen 16:9 televisions or traditional 4:3 TV sets.

SAMSUNG DVD-V2500 DVD Player and VHS VCR Combo,
By A Customer
This review is from: Samsung DVD-V2500 VCR/DVD Combo (Electronics)
I looked long and hard before deciding to buy this unit. I noticed that some brands had reports of lines when they played or stopped or some other problem. I have nothing but praise for the V2500. It's clear as a bell when I use the dvd or vhs and has the progressive scan for the widescreen tvs. I have component connections for the dvd and RCA for the vhs, plus satellite and antenna inputs so I can record with one of those while watching a dvd. I wanted to ask Samsung some questions about hookups (like the component and s-video only help dvd, vhs isn't digital so RCA jacks are the best) and had no problem getting through and the Samsung Rep was very knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend the V2500 if you want a combination unit.

Great DVD/VCR at an Affordable Price,
This review is from: Samsung DVD-V2500 VCR/DVD Combo (Electronics)
This is the first DVD-VCR combo unit that I've had and I enjoy using it. I love the ability to play CD and MP3 discs. There is no fast forward or random play feature for MP3 tracks. It's performance is quite satisfactory when viewing DVDs and VHS tapes. The tape rewind is extremely fast, though a bit noisy. The non-illuminated remote is crammed with useful controls and is fairly well laid out. The unit has a high quality appearance. The picture and sound quality of DVD and VHS are both excellent. The rear of the unit is well designed having all of the connection options used today. In the front are a composite video input and stereo input. It would have been nice if they had included a headphone jack. Set up of time and date are relatively simple. While the unit is well designed, functional and attractive I'm not so certain about the electronics. One time when playing an MP3 disk the unit seemed to become quite warm. As a result the disk eject feature failed to work, even after repeated pressings of the open button on both the remote and on the unit itself. I turned off the unit and after it cooled off the disk eject worked fine. This problem has not happened again, but I begin to wonder about reliability. The nature of a combo unit means complexity, and I was a little confused at first about how to make it do what I wanted, so there is a bit of a learning curve involved. Samsung did an excellent job at making the controls logical, but they are not necessarily intuitive. Overall I think that this machine is an excellent value.

Excellent value,
This review is from: Samsung DVD-V2500 VCR/DVD Combo (Electronics)
I bought this model about a year ago, and while pleased with the unit, I didn't consider it a huge bargain at the time. But, now that it can be had for almost $$$ less than when I purchased it, I highly recommend it as an extrememly excellent value. (I am a little miffed that I paid so much back then, though. Such is life.)The DVD section is excellent. It has played anything I've shoved into it, including Asian VCD's. The VCR section has good picture and sound, nothing spectacular compared to DVD, of course. It has a very fast rewind. The Memory Stick function works a little slowly. But, hey! It HAS a memory stick function! Where else will you find DVD, VCR, and Memory Stick in the same unit for this price? Other pluses include quiet operation. (I don't hear the noises other reviewers have complained about.) And, an RF output for DVD. The only minuses I've noticed is that DVD menu choices and the Memory Stck playback menu both seem to respond slowly to commands, and the remote control is a little "busy" with a ton of buttons, some quite small.
